A few weeks ago, we published an info-sheet on the Gender Wage Gap for Economic Immigrants in Atlantic Canada. In case you missed it, today being International Equal Pay Day, we thought it was a perfect day to re-share it with you. As you'll see, there's still some work to be done! Had a bitter-sweet week in Saskatoon last week. Bitter because it was the last in-person meeting for the Enhancing National Sector Gender-Based Analysis Plus project team. Sweet because it offered us one last opportunity to come together as a team and reflect on the work we’ve done over the last year to develop tools and resources aimed at supporting immigrant and refugee-serving organizations to enhance their capacity to integrate GBA Plus into their work with newcomers and to produce an impactful national research report exploring GBA Plus in the sector. Extra sweet because the pilot partners that each of the participating umbrella organizations—including the organization I work for, the Atlantic Region Association of Immigrant Serving Agencies—have been working with since March were in attendance to highlight the important work they’ve been doing in their organizations to integrate GBA Plus. ARAISA partnered with the Saint John Newcomers Centre and the Association for New Canadians for this project and it was great have Mohamed Bagha and Rayan Chaachou in Saskatoon to discuss the work they’ve completed as part of the program. In addition to those in attendance, I would also like to highlight (and celebrate!) all the amazing work that Asta Rowe, PhD, Lina Gharbiya, and others participating in the GBA Plus pilot program at ANC and SJNC have done so far - it’s been a pleasure and an honor getting to work with you all! On September 5th and 6th, ARAISA engaged in pivotal discussions with Miramichi Regional Multicultural Association (MRMA ), focusing on the needs and services of migrant workers. Our first day included a productive meeting with MRMA's Executive Director Craig Silliker, where we explored the impact of our financing on supporting migrant workers, addressed key challenges, and identified gaps in current services—the second day featured a comprehensive presentation by ARAISA, which highlighted an external analysis of organizational support for migrant workers, and a detailed regional mapping of available services. Shout out to Etoile Najm, our Project Lead, Migrant Workers Support Program for this presentation! This session also included a collaborative brainstorming workshop to develop tools and foster stronger partnerships to enhance service delivery for migrant workers. We're thrilled to see the growing collaboration and innovative approaches emerging from these discussions, reinforcing our commitment to improving the lives of migrant workers through comprehensive, collaborative solutions. Yesterday was International Literacy Day. Did you know that ARAISA lead an EAL Literacy Working Group? It brings together literacy instructors and program administrators from across Atlantic Canada. Group members share best practices, explore strategies for supporting diverse learners, and tackle the unique challenges of EAL literacy education. We're proud to support these educators and administrators as they make a meaningful impact on learners' lives. Let's continue championing literacy and the incredible work done to empower EAL learners in our region! #InternationalLiteracyDay #EALLiteracy

Last week, our Wellness Committee shared a quick 5-minute meditation video during our team meeting, and it was such a refreshing break! Taking just a few minutes out of our day for wellness practices, whether it's meditation or something else, can make a world of difference in how we feel and work. A big thank you to our Wellness Committee for reminding us of the importance of self-care at work. August 31 is International Day for People of African Descent. Let's take this opportunity to celebrate the wonderful contributions of African immigrants to Canada's cultural mosaic! It's also a chance to stand up against racism and discrimination. We all have a part to play in creating a more inclusive Canada where everyone feels welcome and valued.
