Giving back to students is a mutual learning experience. While Matt Borody, P. Eng has been inspiring elementary students, Elliott Garfinkel P.Eng., MBA, one of our managing partners, is involved with the academic community at the post-secondary level. Elliott has shared his industry experience through guest lectures on strategy for MBA students at the Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba.   "I’ve had the privilege of guest lecturing three times, both in-person and virtually. Each time, I focus on what I’ve learned from my work in strategic partnerships, different client needs, and the ever-evolving climate of the engineering consulting business. I love the questions I get when I meet the students. Creating a safe space for them to challenge ideas and share what’s on their minds is always rewarding. Part of our Vancouver team armed themselves with gloves, buckets, and enthusiasm to tackle the trash in the English Bay area. The results were incredible, and we couldn't be prouder: 🚬 1,500 cigarette butts collected 🗑️ 3 full buckets of garbage removed ♻️ 5 full buckets of recycling sorted 🌿 6 kg of garbage removed 🌍 32.6 kg of recycling recovered 🏖️ 80,000 m² of habitat cleaned! A big thank you to everyone who participated! We’re proud to see one of our projects featured in the British Columbia Building Envelope Council (BCBEC) Elements Magazine! The historic #837BeattyStreet building in Vancouver, originally constructed in 1911 as a warehouse, is undergoing a transformation with the addition of four new timber stories. Our team took on the challenge of energy modelling for this redevelopment, aiming to blend the historic charm with a modern, comfortable office environment. Michael Driedger, one of our principals in Vancouver, shared his thoughts on the project, stating that this was an incredible experience for our engineering team, merging the historic character of an early 20th-century warehouse with modern mass timber construction. It allowed the team to innovate while respecting Vancouver's rich heritage. "This project is a testament to the power of thoughtful design and engineering in creating spaces that honour the past while building for the future." It’s back-to-school season, and some MCW team members are helping inspire the next generation of engineers, from elementary schools to post-secondary! Matt Borody, P. Eng, one of our partners, has been making a difference by volunteering at Dawson Trail School in Lorette (MB), teaching Grade 3 and 4 students about the wonders of engineering. 🏗️ Every year, he brings his knowledge to life through interactive projects, from building popsicle stick bridges to designing classroom lighting plans.   “It’s always a fun challenge,” he shares. “Explaining complex concepts like structure and lighting to a 10-year-old really makes you think about the basics. It’s all about breaking down what we do into something they can grasp and getting their perspective. Kids see things differently—they design with feeling, not with corporate standards. It’s a refreshing reminder to think outside the box.”   We love seeing our team members give back and inspire young minds to think creatively about engineering and design. Who knows? Summer might be coming to an end, but our East Coast teams are still making the most of it! Our Moncton, Halifax, and Saint John offices recently came together for a fun-filled day at Magic Mountain Water Park in Moncton. Divided into teams of four, they tackled 18 mini-putt holes while taking in the beautiful views of Magnetic Hill. Special thanks to Terrance Melanson, our talented Senior Mechanical Technologist, for capturing these great moments! After a friendly competition on the course, everyone gathered for lunch at Wharf Village.
