Change is hard for most people. Especially athletes, as they are highly depenadent on their routine and rituals. Here are some steps to foster acceptance of new performance strategies: Education and Transparency: Clearly explain the rationale behind the strategies. Get personal. How it impacts each person. Involvement and Ownership: Involve team members in decision-making. When they feel ownership, they’re more likely to embrace change. Small Wins: Start with small, achievable changes. Celebrate successes to build momentum. Champion Advocates: Identify influential team members who support the strategies. Their endorsement can sway others. Continuous Communication: Regularly discuss progress, address concerns, and adapt as needed.

Buddy System: Pair athletes from different backgrounds to bridge gaps and build camaraderie. It’s a win-win—language skills improve, and friendships blossom. Translate and Adapt: Work closely with coaches to learn their terminology. Translate their insights into language that resonates with your athletes. Remember, it’s not just about words; it’s about conveying passion and purpose. Patience and Persistence: Overcoming language barriers takes time. Be patient, listen actively, and appreciate the effort athletes put into learning and adapting.

Communication starts with trust. Trust starts by listening, 1-1 and getting to know your individual athlete. go back to their childhood, understand their dreams. get underneath what makes them move and why they started playing in the first place. Share pieces about you too, by demonstrating this vulnerability, you show them they can be too.

Ever watched your kids learn something new? They watch. Observe. Try. Observational learning is a cornerstone of sports performance that is usually forgotten. But it needs to be incorporated because: --> It activates similar brain areas used during actual performance, enhancing neural pathways related to the sport --> Watching skilled movements helps athletes internalize techniques, improving their own execution --> It allows for the analysis of spontaneous behavior in a natural context, providing real-time and post-hoc insights --. Athletes can learn strategic behaviors and tactics by observing peers and competitors Observational methods help identify key performance elements, which can be emulated for better outcomes3.

As Trevor Moawad would say, "don't say stupid sh*t out loud." You give things power by saying them out loud. If someone says something out loud it is 10X more powerful than if they just think it. Data reinforced by Christine Pourout from Georgetown and Harvard. That negativity is a multiple of 4-7X more powerful than positivity. If I say something out loud it's 10x, if it's negative its 4-7x times. So if i day something negative out loud, its 40-70x more likely that will happen or cause a result that wont be good for me, than if i just didn't say anything. By saying it out loud you increase the probability. you are predicting and perpetuating what you don't want to have happen .

Addition by Subtraction:It's not just what winners do, it's also what they don’t do. Identify environments and/or people that drain your energy. How will you limit this exposure or set boundaries to not let this energy or negativity bring you down. We neglect a basic way to make things better: we don’t subtract.
