machineMD is proud to have been awarded 🥈 place in the inaugural VSP Vision Innovation Challenge.     The global competition was launched by VSP Vision, the leader in delivering access to health-focused vision care and Matter Health, the premier healthcare incubator and innovation hub, with the goal to explore solutions that enhance the patient experience in eye care.    machineMD was one of five finalists that had be selected from the applicant pool that received expert mentorship and exclusive resources from the VSP network. The final showcase was held on August 15th in Chicago. machineMD was able to convince the judges of its case and received an excellent second place with its pitch for its first product neos™.     neos™ is a reusable medical device system available in the USA intended to present visual stimuli to both eyes individually, and measures the resulting eye movements and pupillary changes of each eye. The device, based on an industry-leading VR headset, performs an automated examination of eye movements and pupillary function, also including visual field screening. Haselon, Rafael Klimas, Ralf Gold, Tatiana Bremova-Ertl, Jeremias Motte, Anke Salmen In clinical practice, the binocular evaluation of oculomotor disturbances is often deprioritized, considered to be both complex and time-consuming. Despite this, disturbances in eye movements, especially internuclear ophthalmoplegia (INO) and different forms of acquired nystagmus, are frequently observed in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. Objectifying subjective visual complaints can facilitate earlier detection of oculomotor disturbances, allowing for more precise imaging diagnostics and potentially influencing therapeutic decisions. Beyond diagnosis and optimized treatment for the underlying condition, symptomatic treatment options can be provided to patients. These should be administered as individualized treatment trials under strict therapeutic monitoring, particularly given the generally low evidence base. World Brain Day 2024 - Brain Health and Prevention: Protecting our future    It's World Brain Day, and this year’s focus is brain health and prevention.     Neurological disorders are one of the leading causes of shortened life expectancy worldwide and have a major impact on global health. Investing in early diagnosis and effective management are very important to significantly reduce the burden of these disorders     Neuro-ophthalmic examinations can contribute greatly to the early detection of brain disorders. Today, these examinations are mostly performed manually and time-intensively by highly trained specialists who are in short supply. Accessible, objective, quantitative examinations are needed.     This is the mission of machineMD: Together with our global network of partners and medical experts, we strive to radically improve the measurement of brain function. 👣 👀 Recording digital biomarkers of people with #Parkinson’s This week the Universitätsspital Zürich hosted project partners from the University of Exeter, gaitQ and machineMD. Together, these interdisciplinary teams embark on an 18-month research project, funded from a grant awarded by Innosuisse and Innovate UK, which will record digital biomarkers from people with #Parkinson’s. The data will be used to establish patterns of behaviour and provide clinicians with insight to deliver more effective treatment plans, ultimately helping earlier detection and treatment of the condition. 🌐 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ec_s-8-N
