English: Montezuma Well is a separate unit of the Montezuma Castle National Monument in Yavapai County, Arizona, about 11 miles (17.7 km) north of the primary site. The "well" – which has nothing to do with Montezuma – is a natural limestone sinkhole filled by an underground spring. The walls of the well were the site of cliff dwellings of the Sinagua people, remains of which are still extant, along with the ruins of pueblo dwellings. The outlet of the well has hed a prehistoric irrigation ditch since the 8th century. Also on the site is the ruin of a Hohokam-style pithouse.
