This substantial stone ruined house, Finlaggam, is believed to date from the period of the Kingdom of the Islea, during which the Scottish clans ruled the islands, having appropriated them from Scandinavian rulers. The building stood in a commercial town, the capital of the kingdom. As only important men would have resided there, it is tentatively believed to have been the house of Donald MacGilleasbuig, a regent mentioned on a tombstone.
