Restoration was extensive and took place in the 1990s and early 2000s, and would thus likely have attracted a new copyright. Crisco 1492 (talk) 07:03, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's apparently not settled in US courts whether restoration renews copyright. [1] argues that it doesn't, and I think that is a reasonable interpretation given that it doesn't pass the threshold of originality. InverseHypercube 07:42, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • According to the English Wikipedia article, " A hand-colored print [...] was rediscovered in [...] a state of almost total decomposition, but a frame-by-frame restoration was launched in 1999 and completed in 2010." If this is true, and numerous scenes had to be filled in by the restorers, this may still pass the threshhold... at least in France.
Also, "with a new soundtrack by the French band Air"... my connection can't handle streaming, but if the video has a soundtrack by Air then that would certainly not be PD. Crisco 1492 (talk) 22:42, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
