1940 publication, was there a notice or renewal for this? (Aside: The photos in this cat are of ancient art, so do we apply the rule about 2d reproduction here?)

Hi @ShakespeareFan00: The images are provided on Flickr "The Commons" [1] with the label "No known copyright restrictions", and the book is freely available at Archives.org [2]. The copyright is held by the "Fields Museum of National History, 1940" [3]. Copyright renewal does not appear in The Copyright Renewal Database. पाटलिपुत्र (talk) 12:11, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks... Given that some IA sourced items proved to have incomplete meta-data, I hope you can appreciate the caution. ShakespeareFan00 (talk)
Comment Even if the book was indeed found to still be copyrighted, it looks like this may still be acceptable under PD-scan, as it is a faithful reproduction of the original. See here and here for details. However, we do not have to worry about this issue in this case since there was no evidence of copyright renewal. --ShyAlpaca482 (talk) 14:05, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Keep, change license tag to PD-US-not renewed: See above comment by पाटलिपुत्र. --ShyAlpaca482 (talk) 14:05, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: Published in the US in 1940 with no copyright notice, per full scan of book at archive.org. --dave pape (talk) 21:10, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Out of scope text images that are duplicated in scan...
