Change of target category

[edit]

This template currently categorises tagged files into Category:Files with no machine-readable source. It accounts for about 156,000 files out of some 547,000 files in that category. I propose that we change this to categorise the 156,000 files in a new Category:Assumed own work (or some similar name) as a subcategory of the current one, to make it easier to check the remaining files. Thoughts? Green Giant (talk) 22:14, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Green Giant: Absolutely support. This template marks that we’re not sure if there’s an acceptable source indication (and we make our guess machine-readably), while Category:Files with no machine-readable source should collect files where we’re absolutely clueless. (I spent quite a few minutes debugging why this category shows up on a file where the source field of the {{Information}} template is filled, until I discovered that the category is not added by CommonsMetadata…) —Tacsipacsi (talk) 21:45, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Tacsipacsi: I think the proposal has been sat here long enough. I’m not a coder, so if you can make it happen, please go for it and I’ll help where needed. --Green Giant (talk) 22:00, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Green Giant: Done, it was a pretty trivial change; let’s see how many files disappear from the current 667,717. What I’m not sure about is the category page and especially its parent category/categories. This one is a non-coding task, so I hope you can take a look at it and improve it as needed. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 00:13, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
