There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you upload your new version in another file? This new one's colors are vastly different and it has a lower resolution. It would be okay to have two version of this painting.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 20:04, 21 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging uploads

[edit]

Hi there, I came across one of your uploads and was prompted to look at your contributions. Some points for better tagging:

  1. For {{PD-Art}} cases, please use {{Artwork}} or {{Art photo}} instead of {{Information}}, and provide a parameter to {{PD-Art}} to explain why the artwork is public domain. Example: {{PD-Art|PD-old-auto|deathyear=1942}}, or for pre-1923 works, {{PD-Art|PD-old-auto-1923|deathyear=1942}}
  2. Please use Creator templates (eg Creator:Torii Kiyonaga at File:Torii Kiyonaga - Dream Symbols of the New Year, 1786.jpg) if available (and consider creating them if there isn't one).
  3. The copyright in a photo is separate from the copyright in the underlying work. For 2-dimensional works {{PD-Art}} covers this, but for 3D ones, the photo needs to be PD or freely licensed. I had to delete a couple that weren't.
  4. Please provide as much details on the source as possible - if the image came from a website, the exact URL should be provided if possible.

Thanks for your contributions; these suggestions will make them even more useful. It's much much better to get this right when uploading than to try and fix it later!

Also, could you add Commons:Babel templates to your userpage? This is generally helpful. Thanks. Rd232 (talk) 17:26, 10 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

works of D. Howard Hitchcock

[edit]

Hi Hiart, the works of D. Howard Hitchcock may or may not yet be in the PD, because if 70 years pma is applicable, they would became PD only at end on 2013. But, as US copyright is rather complicated please consult File:PD-US table.svg to assess the copyright status of each of the works. --Túrelio (talk) 22:06, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In fact, some of these paintings were published after 1923, so they are not clearly in the public domain in the United States. I marked the post-1923 paintings for speedy deletion: they will shortly be deleted, unless you can show that their copyright has expired. The post-1923 paintings are: File:'Surf', oil painting by D. Howard Hitchcock, 1940, Cedar Street Galleries.jpg, File:'Menemsha Bight' by D. Howard Hitchcock, 1928.jpg, File:'Menehune with Fish' by D. Howard Hitchcock, 1936.jpg, File:'Menehune on Surfboard' by D. Howard Hitchcock, 1924.jpg, File:'Hills of Baguio' by D. Howard Hitchcock, 1931.jpg, File:'Pele' by D. Howard Hitchcock, c. 1929.jpg — hike395 (talk) 08:52, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrol given

[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. whym (talk) 14:03, 24 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for editors to help with an Asian Pacific American edit-a-thon in Honolulu

[edit]
On Oahu? Edit Wikipedia or Wikimedia sister projects? You are invited to help the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center with an Asian Pacific American edit-a-thon in Honolulu this September.

Aloha!

I am guessing that you may live on Oahu. The banner above & what follows below is a post that I have been putting on the talk page of Wikipedians in Hawaii. Peaceray (talk) 19:47, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Last summer I moved to the Seattle area after 14 years in Kailua on Oahu. I immediately fell in with the Cascadia Wikimedians User Group as it formed, joined its board and became its first president as well as the GLAM representative for Washington State.

Recently, Adriel Luis, Curator (Digital & Emerging Media) at the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center, contacted me about setting up an edit-a-thon like the previous Wikipedia APA edit-a-thon. In addition to discussing one for Seattle, he wrote:

It's awesome to learn about your past in Honolulu - I'm actually going to be there for another SmithsonianAPA project mid September, and thinking that this could be an opportunity to do an event there as well! I have lots of contacts with UH and the museums, but do you know of any contacts on the Wikimedia side out there?

As I was working two jobs while I lived on Oahu, I did not have the opportunity to meet your or any other Wikipedians at the time. Hence, the reason why I am contacting you now.

If you would like to help, please contact me through one of these methods:

Mahalo,

File:'A Gloomy Hawaiian Sunset' by Marguerite Louis Blasingame.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Girl with banjo ukulele

[edit]

Hi,

Your submission of File:'Girl in Moonlight with Banjo Ukulele!' byEdward Mason Eggleston, 1925-30.JPG got me to create an article on Edward Mason Eggleston and add more of his works to Commons. I finally tracked down the image to a museum exhibit in Hawaii. Could you tell me any more about where you came into contact with the image? I’m trying to start a search for its current home. Thanks, Jacqke (talk) 15:37, 2 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
