Detachment: Clone Trooper Detachment
Context: This "Beta" version of the ARC Heavy Gunner is based on the Clone Wars series of action figures and the "Epic Battles" artwork.

ARC troopers are an elite variant trooper serving in the Grand Army of the Republic. The Heavy Gunner is part of a specialized team, on the Hunt for General Grievous.

Please note that this costume is also eligible for membership in The Rebel Legion, although adjustments may need to be made for RL approval.


The 501st approval requirements are listed in black.

In the page below, items listed in blue are recommended features that will improve the quality of the costume. Items listed in red are intended to further enhance the finished costume.

For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.


This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.


  • This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum.
  • GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum.
  • Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval.
  • Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size.
  • Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.


Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.


AR Heavy Gunner Beta Helmet.jpg Helmet
  • Episode 3 style AT-RT Driver Helmet.
  • Helmet is painted matte or satin white.
  • Mirrored Chrome or Black eye lens.
  • Indented area and greeblies on the lower front of helmet are black in color.
  • 5 black Vents on each side of helmet cheeks.
  • Command marking symbolizing rank:
    • 1. Two blue stripes, 1.2 inches wide, on the dome of the helmet.
    • 2. The raised wrap, around the dome, is painted blue.
    • 3. The indented area where the lenses are around the nose is painted blue.
    • 4. Blue paint follows the curve, from the indented lens area to the point on the front of the cheek mudflaps.
    • 5. The visor over the lenses is completely blue in color.
  • AT-RT style black antenna is mounted on left side of helmet in a 1/3 circle detail on the ear.

  • Neck seal is black in color with vertical ribbing or smooth in appearance.
  • No logos or labels are visible.
    • If the seal is not incorporated as part of the undersuit, a balaclava or other similar covering is acceptable.

  • Black, non-textured material, either one-piece or two-piece construction with no visible zippers or logos.




AR Heavy Gunner Beta Shoulders.jpg Shoulder Armor
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • Shoulders are tear drop in shape with all rounded edges.
  • See "Elbow Armor" for corresponding color options.
    • Option 1: Lieutenant Rank - Blue paint follows the contour of the shoulder armor. Front shoulder line matches front upper arm location and rear shoulder line matches with rear upper arm line. The command stripe is continuous from one part to the next.
    • Option 2: Standard Rank - Shoulder armor painted solid blue.

  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • The lower area of the back of the arm has a dimple.
  • Blue paint partially covers the tricep indentation and 1/2" around the front of the bicep.
  • The outside of the bicep has a hard line edge at the front that turns in.
    • The inside of the upper arm is rounded.
  • Armor is seamless.
    • No visible traces of how the armor was assembled are shown.

  • There are two elbows.
  • Elbows are mirror images of each other.
  • Both elbows have strapping.
    • The straps have a raised detail line at the top and bottom of the strap.
  • On the outside of each elbow piece, near the connection point of the strap, are two horizontal detail slots that look like equal symbols.
  • A notched area on the outside of the elbow, above the detail marks.
  • See "Shoulder Armor" for corresponding color options.
    • Option 1: Lieutenant Rank - Blue paint covers the outside of the elbow and 1/2" - 3/4" of the return. The remainder is white.
    • Option 2: Standard Rank - Blue paint covers the entire elbow armor.




AR Heavy Gunner Beta Forearms.jpg Forearm Armor
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • Left and right forearms are mirror images of each other.
  • Right forearm has a compad with 8 small buttons,1 Large main button, and 1 slightly smaller rectangular button.
  • Forearm tops have a flattened triangular area with a ridge that comes to a point at the top of the forearm.
  • Command paint starts at the back of the bottom triangle of the forearm and continues in a straight line to the top of the forearm.
  • The top line starts 1/4" from compad location on right arm and continues in a vertical line.
    • The area between these two lines is filled in with command coloring.
    • Match this to the left arm.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armor is seamless.
    • No visible traces of how the armor was assembled are shown.
  • Compad has detail antenna on left.
  • Instead of a hard edge, the top of the forearm has a bone ridge.

  • Hand plates are mirror images of each other.
  • Hand plates have a top curving ridge that come to a point over the index or middle finger just past the main knuckle of the hand.
  • Hand plates are completely colored with command coloring.





Generic-black-gloves.jpg Gloves
  • Black over the wrist gloves made of leather, nylon, or other low pile fabrics.
  • Gloves cover any exposed skin.
  • Gloves do not show any labels or logos when the armor is worn.

  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • Two detail slots on right breast.
  • Chest and back plate match together at the sides with no open gap
    • A seam line is present.
  • Shoulder straps are placed underneath the chest to connect to the back armor.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Shoulder straps are slotted into the top detail ridges of the connection points.

  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • Rear center plate has detailed area that contains 4 circles.
    • Under the circles, at the left side of the back, there are two parallel lines
    • On the the right of the back there is a squared detail.
  • Back and Chest armor match together at the sides with no open gap
  • A seam line is present.
  • Shoulder straps are placed underneath the back to connect to the chest.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Shoulder straps are slotted into the detail ridges of the top connection points.
  • Highly detailed resin insert replaces softer details.




AR Heavy Gunner Beta Ab.jpg Abdomen Armor
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • Four 1/4" diameter holes per side on indents of ab plate.
  • Eight holes total.
  • Abdomen section wraps around the wearers body and is sealed at the sides or back.
  • Abdomen armor is completely contained under the chest and back armor.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armor is seamless at the sides and closed in the back.
    • A detail plate covers the seam line and hides all work.

  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • Codpiece and Posterior armor connect at the hips.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Hips are connected via a snap with the correct detailed shape of the armor at the connection point.




AR Heavy Gunner Beta Belt.jpg Belt, Belt boxes, and Detonator
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • (8) boxes total are attached to the belt.
    • (4) on each side of abdomen.
  • Command Buckle situated under the belt front center.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Belt Boxes are notched and fitted flush with the details of the belt.
  • Left Rear belt box has two square buttons in the top left corner and and equal symbol detail at the bottom right.
  • Right Rear belt box has a bar with two small cylinders centered with an equal symbol detail on the bottom left.
  • From the rear two belt boxes the belt has a ribbed detailed appearance.

  • The Command Buckle is fastened under the front center of the belt.
  • The lower straps extend under, and fasten to, the Kama.
    • Option 1: Movie style White buckle with Grey straps.
    • Option 2: ARC style White buckle with Black straps.

  • The Kama is black or extremely dark gray and made from a heavy material like denim or duck cloth.
  • Kama is trimmed with matching blue color fabric.
  • Rear of Kama has a triangle split.
  • Kama starts at the front belt boxes.
  • The Kama extends to the bottom of the knee armor.
  • There is a strap on each side that comes from the inside of the kama front and clips to the command buckle.
    • See above "Command Buckle" section for color of buckle and straps.

  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • Front of thigh armor has a flat triangular area near the knee.
  • From the top of the triangle a ridge line travels up the front of the thigh to the top edge.
  • Rear of the thigh has an indention.
  • Armor is seamless.
    • No visible traces of how the armor was assembled are shown.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Outside of lower edge comes to a point.
  • Inner lower edge is rounded.

  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • Knees wrap around the front of the leg.
  • From top center a vertical raised detail line is present.
  • Knees are strapped to the leg via a white strap with a raised center area that wraps around the leg and connects on both sides of the Knee.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Center strap is primer gray.
  • Connection between the knee and the strapping has a detail clip.




AR Heavy Gunner Beta Shins.jpg Lower Leg Armor
  • Armor is painted matte or satin white.
  • Lower Legs are mirror images of each other.
  • The front of the armor has a triangular detail at the top of the leg and a hard ridge line down the front of the shin.
  • Back of lower leg armor features arched indentation, just under the calf, that follows down to the ankle.
    • Bottom of this indentation features a smaller arch detail at the heel.
  • Outside of the calf is closed.
    • Calf can have an access area on the inside of the leg.
  • Calves are seamless and have a trap door access through the indent in the rear of the lower leg.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Outside of the lower leg has a pointed tip at the top.
  • Inside of the lower leg is rounded at the top.





Clone shoes copy.jpg Boots
  • White, ankle high or tall enough to cover the ankle and eliminate any black undersuit visible at the ankle.
  • Boots are lace-less.
  • The boots have armor detail to include a natural seam at the toe and a strap that goes over the top of the foot with two protruding disks at each side of the strap.
  • There are no markings or labels from the shoe makers.
  • Boot soles are flat.
  • Boot soles are colored primer grey.




Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.


Z6 Rotary Blaster.jpg Z-6 Rotary Blaster Cannon (Minigun)

Manufactured by Merr-Sonn Munitions, Inc, the Z-6 Cannon incorporates a rotary assembly of six barrels, wrapped around a coolant-lined core, providing a tremendous sustained rate of fire. Because it is large and can become unwieldy, the Z-6 is reserved for special-issue deployment and requires training to use effectively.




Blankwhite.gif Reciprocating Quad Blaster (4 Barrel)
  • The backpack mounted 4 barrel blaster as seen on some action figures as well as the original "Clone Wars" animated series.
