Context: Star Wars: Rebels
AT-AT Drivers serve in the Imperial Army specializing in operating the Empire's imposing and iconic combat walkers, the All Terrain Armored Transport (AT-AT). The AT-AT Drivers were integral in making sure the Empire's might is felt and order is kept in Lothal and other Imperial territories.



This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.


  • This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum.
  • GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum.
  • Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval.
  • Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size.
  • Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.


Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.



AT-AT Drive SWR Bucket.jpg HELMET
  • Animated stylized helmet, semi-gloss white finish. Light weathering is acceptable.
  • Eye sockets use flat dark lenses.
  • Two red Imperial cogs, approximately 2.75" (69mm) diameter, located on both sides of the mohawk.
  • Front of mohawk painted black and tapers on a centerline. Back of the mohawk ends in a red rectangle.
  • Appearance of two small square surface details, on each side of the mohawk.
    • Left square is red in color.
    • Right square is grey in color.
  • Recessed sections of the forehead features two greeblies.
    • Two grey lines are centered in each recessed section.
    • Two round greeblies, grey with a red circle at the center, appear at the top of the grey lines.
  • Appearance of two animated-style soda siphons painted black with a red two-over-one pattern.
    • Grey segmented tubes extend from the top of the siphons and finish flush with brow of helmet.
    • A black rectangular greeblie, approximately .75" (19mm) long, .375" (9.5mm) high, .25" (6.35mm) wide, sit on the inside of each of the soda siphon tubes.
  • The mouth/frown is painted dark grey, with the bottom half of the center tooth painted red.
  • There are animated-style tusks set inside the black painted recessed area of the mouth tubes.
    • Tusks are discs with six holes and painted grey, on top of each disc is a hemisphere.
    • Left tusk hemisphere is metallic in color, right tusk hemisphere is painted red.
  • Three black stripes run parallel down the cheek tubes, with the top stripe twice the thickness of the bottom two stripes.
  • The vocoder is painted semigloss white, with a middle raised section painted in black.
    • A small grey rectangle is located directly on the top of the raised section.
  • The back of the mohawk has a 7" x 1.65" (177mm x 42mm) red decal or painted strip with rounded corners, centered between the red rectangle of the mohawk and the pill box.
  • The pill box is a black rectangle surface detail and is centered at the bottom of the mohawk back.
  • Two grey canisters are attached at the rear, on each side of the mohawk.
    • Each has a recessed center tube, and the cap has a raised cylindrical top.
    • The left tube has a black square at the bottom outer side of the center section.
    • The right cylinder has a red strip that encircles the top of the center section of the tube.
  • Black painted trim, approximately .75" (19mm) on the underside of the helmet that stops on both ear cups.

  • Animated stylized helmet, semi-gloss white finish. Light weathering is acceptable.
  • Has a raised square in the front center to mount the chest box.

  • Animated stylized helmet, semi-gloss white finish. Light weathering is acceptable.
  • Boxed shape, consists of a tapered box on top of a cylinder.
  • Dimensions of the box are:
    • Upper box area: 7.5" (190.5mm) x 7.5" (190.5mm) x 2.5" (63.5mm).
    • Top of upper box: 3.375" (85.72mm) with a 10-degree taper on top, and bottom.
    • Cylinder section: 2.25" (57.15mm) diameter and has a rectangular stand off 2.75" (69.85mm) from the wearer's left side of the box.
  • All the flat front facing sections of the box are grey in color, the top grey section has a black square section to the wearer's right side.
  • All box details are surface-only decals or paint, with the exception of the animated style gear type greeblies located one each side.
    • Side greeblies are smooth flat discs and grey in color, 1.625" (41.27mm) in diameter.
  • Custom circuit decals are located on the face plate consisting of:
    • Circuit type decal on top of a black square on the wearer's right side,
    • White rectangle that extends approximately 3" (76mm) and ends with with a smaller hollow red rectangle to the wearer's left hand side.
  • The red lights decal consists of:
    • A red rectangle with a black field inside of it.
    • Inside the black field are nine red circles in two rows -- four on top, five at the bottom.
  • Appearance of a pin connector detail with six shorter white, and six longer black rectangles .25" (6.35mm) from top of stand off.
  • Centered at the top of the chest box are two thin rectangles: one yellow and one black.




AT-AT Driver SWR Back Armorv2.jpg BACK ARMOR
  • Animated stylized helmet, semi-gloss white finish. Light weathering is acceptable.
  • Has a raised square in the front center to mount the circuit board.
    • Dimensions: 6" (152.4mm) high x 8" (203.02mm) wide.
  • Circuit Board is mounted on top of the backplate.
    • Dimensions: 5.5" (139.7mm) high x 6" (152.4mm) wide.
  • There are two cut-out square sections missing from the decal plate. One in the top left, one in the bottom right.
  • Circuit board detail/decal is black, white, red, and grey.
    • Dimensions: 5.75" (146mm) high x 3.75" (95.25mm) wide.
    • Detailing as shown in the picture.
  • Appearance of two raised greeblies:
    • One rectangle, matches the armor color.
    • Black details: Pill shaped detail in the center with a small circle above and below.
    • One clear/transparent raised square, with a black circle detail on top.
  • Shoulder straps should be flat, non-ridged with a button on the back of the strap to simulate a hold-down screw.

  • Animated stylized helmet, semi-gloss white finish. Light weathering is acceptable.
  • Shoulder bell should taper towards the arm pocket and center on the chevron pocket flap.
  • The shoulder bell is trimmed in a grey medium line, with a quarter ellipse connection from sides to top. Grey trim sits approximately .5" to .75" (12.7mm to 19mm) from the edges of the bell.
  • There are seven grey painted or decal rectangles, .5" to .75" (12.7mm to 19mm) 3/16" grey trim line, middle rectangle top center of the bell.

  • Each hose is approximately 40" (1,000mm) in length and 1.25" (31.75mm) in diameter.
  • Smooth or textured finish (non-ribbed).
  • Grey in colour.
  • Thin black rings, marked or drawn on the hose, spaced every 1" (25.4mm).

  • One piece light grey coverall/jumpsuit/flight suit with a front invisible zipper hidden by the seam.
  • Fully-enclosed standing collar, approximately 1.5" (38.1mm) tall, with no visible gap.
    • Collar may be closed neatly by including a modesty panel behind collar closure.
    • Appearance of a gapless collar.
  • There is a horizontal seam (or double-topstitched line) that runs across the upper chest, but does not extend around the back.
  • A silver or white Imperial cog emblem on a black background may be present on both shoulders. The cog is 3" (76mm) or 3.5" (89mm) in diameter, and 1" (25.4mm) from the shoulder seam.
    • If the costume includes armor that covers the cog emblems entirely, they may be omitted.
  • The right and left sleeves have a cargo pocket approximately 6" (152mm) wide and 8.75" (222mm) high.
    • The pockets have approximately 2" (50.8mm) chevron pointed flap.
    • Placed approximately 4" (101mm) below the cog emblem, if present.
  • Two large chest pockets and two large front pockets below the belt without any zipper or flaps.
  • Two leg pockets with flaps similar in proportion as the one on the right arm sleeve. Size may differ. Usually the width of the front pockets are proportionate to the the width of the leg pockets.
  • There is no seam, running vertical, down the middle of the back (as some flightsuits have).
  • On the left forearm there is a compad pocket with a stitched border.
    • Width: 4.5" (114mm)
    • Height: 5.25" (133mm)
    • Border width: 2.25" (57.15mm)
  • Rank bars of any kind are not permitted.




AT-AT Driver SWR Ejection Harness.jpg EJECTION HARNESS
  • White webbing is stitched on the side of the flightsuit. Starts at the waist & travels down the outside of each leg & stops just above the knees.
  • Loop wraps around each leg and is attached to the side of the webbing.
  • Webbing is 2" (50.8mm) wide, and a ribbed type.
  • Car seat-belt material is not accepted.




AT-AT Driver SWR Gloves.jpg GLOVES
  • Gauntlet style gloves are constructed from leather or similar material.
  • Gloves are white in color.
  • Fitted gauntlets with a slight flare, with an appearance of a short cuff.
  • Features three raised or flat stitched lines on the back of each hand.
  • The left glove has a communication pad attached to the cuff:
    • Communication pad has a square base: 1" (25mm).
    • Circular center section .75" (19mm) diameter x .10" (2.5mm) tall.
    • A small white center circle sits on top of the circular center section.
  • No visible logos or brand names.
  • No buckles or straps.
  • Light weathering is acceptable.




AT-AT Driver SWR Boots.jpg BOOTS
  • Mid-calf, off white in color. Made from typical snow boots similar with the classic AT-AT Driver.
  • The shaft features three evenly spaced bands of white glossy tape measuring approximately 1.5" (29mm) in height.
  • Sole is approximately 1" (25mm) tall.
  • Light weathering is acceptable.

Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.


AT-AT Driver SWR E11 Animated.jpg E-11 BLASTER (Animated Style)
  • A simplified version of the E-11 blaster.
  • A scratch-built, or a modified commercial toy Stormtrooper blaster.




Generic Balaclava.jpg BALACLAVA

Although the characters did not appear to wear a balaclava and skin tones can be seen between the collar and helmet, a balaclava (or some sort of neck/head stocking) can be used as an optional extra.

  • Black, white, or skin-toned balaclava/head-sock that is worn under the helmet and is used primarily to hide any view of the wearer's skin, facial hair, tattoos, etc.
  • Balaclava tucks into the flight-suit collar.
  • Balaclava is plain with no logos or decorative stitching.
