	Description: Kylo Ren: The Last Jedi Prefix: DS Detachment: Sith Lord Detachment Context: Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi Kylo Ren is the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa and is a powerful and dangerous force user. Breaking free from the bonds of his master, he controls the First Order and hunts the remainder of the resistance with ruthless persistence.

Special Note: This costume requires both the helmet and the cape to be worn. Members are not to wear this costume or be approved without both pieces.

This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type. This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum. GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum. Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval. Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size. Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.

Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.

	Helmet The helmet is painted satin black. The helmet is asymmetrical and has 5 chrome/silver ridges contouring the eye opening that transition into various ridges on the cheek areas. The wearer’s eyes and face are blacked out with sheer fabric. The helmet is proportional to the wearer.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): The holes between the ridges in the cheeks are lined with a black material attached to the inside of the helmet. The helmet must be weathered and should match the visual references of this CRL as closely as possible, both in colors, damage and weathering patterns.

	Neck Seal The neckseal can not be worn without the cape and helmet. Composed of horizontally stacked leather (or leather-like material). Worn over the tunic, and extends to the top of the wearer’s neck. Closes at the back of the wearer’s neck.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Composed of approximately 14 strips of leather. Neck seal must be made of distressed leather. Neck seal is a funnel like shape and fitted to the wearer. The strips are folded. The line of the neck seal starts from the back at the base of the head, following under the ears and the line of the jaw.

	Cape The cape is made from leather or high quality like material (pleather or coated cotton) There is a shine with cracked finish on the entire cape. The cape is made of patchworked cuts. All pieces are tilted at a horizontal angle. The angled cuts are in the same direction around the cape. See the Kylo Ren cape pattern page for details, angle and pattern. Two straps attached at the inside secure the cape. Panels sewn with top stitched finished seams. Cape has an edge of trim around the collar and front edge, it begins at the bottom hem and transitions around the collar. The cape is ankle length.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): The trim is approximately 2.5 inch (63.5mm) wide. The collar is approximately 3 inches (76mm) tall. The Rear of the cape is suede/flesh side finished with textured Polish/sheen coating (with leather side inside of the cape)
	OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable): The 51 panels are glued together then sewn on every edge.

	Tunic The tunic is made of black lightweight fabric with minimal sheen. Pintucked with squares approximately 0.8 Inch (20mm). Tunic is padded. Charcoal grey shoulder cap. Military collar is closed. Sewn with bronze/dark gold thread Hidden zipper in the center of the tunic, ends under the belt. The tunic is form fitting and tailored to the costumer. Tunic skirting is mid thigh length. The skirting is belled. The center skirting at the back creates a chevron under the belt. The pintucks are pressed flat.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): 1 Inch (25mm) charcoal grey shoulder cap. Approximately 2 inch (50mm) military collar. Quilting includes vertical pin-tuck waves approximately 1/8 Inch (3mm) in size. Horizontal stitches on quilting alternate drag direction creating zig-zag appearance on vertical stitches. Armholes feature heavy textured fabric 1 Inch (25mm) band. Pintucks are pressed flat to the costumers left.
	OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable): Shoulder caps are plain weave fabric with a large strand width.

	Sleeved Shirt Sleeves are made from matte black canvas or similar natural weight material. Shirt is black material. The sleeved shirt is worn beneath the tunic. Constructed with 32 to 42 pleats. The sleeves are form fitting, extend to the wrist and flare out at the cuff. A zipper ending at the base of the thumb runs down the inside seam of the sleeve.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Made from thick canvas with a even plain weave. piping is a twill weave. Piping is present along the seam where the zipper is present and is piped on both sides.
	OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable): The sleeve pleats should be spaced similarly to the reference images. Sheen is predominant on the edges of the pleats only.

	Gloves Form fitting black leather (or leather-like material) with no visible colors, logos or other markings. The gloves do not have straps or buckles. The tops have minimum of two lines wrapping the top of the knuckles and lines that are vertical with two small piping lines, they intersect at the joints of the fingers with another piece of leather that is as wide as the knuckle leather. On the index finger there is an indented design. Gloves are made of leather or leather-like material.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Gloves have 3 lines sewn into the hand on the outer edges and 2 at the top of the palm.

	Belt Made of black rigid thick leather or leather-like material, black with straps at the top and bottom. Straps are distressed, and made from the same material as the belt. Worn on top of the Tunic. Seamless around the wearer’s body — the closure is behind the buckle. The buckle is semi-gloss black, rectangular, centered on the front of the wearer, and is the same height as the belt. The details of the buckle are as pictured. The saber clip is semi-gloss black, and mounted on the belt 2–3 inch (51–76mm) behind the wearer’s right hip. The details of the saber clip are pictured.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Belt is approximately 4 1/2 inch (114mm) wide. The two straps are 1/2 inch (12.7mm) wide.

	Pants Fitted plain black denim. Resin or wax coated with a uniform finish & sheen Darts present above and below the knee. Seam at the back of the knee.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Darts are 1.5 Inch (38mm) long

	Boots Made of leather, or leather-like material, black and have a medium gloss shine with no visible laces. Have a rounded toe and a smooth textured appearance. There are 4 strips of vertical panels from the base of the ankle to the top of the boot. Two straps at the at the top and two at the bottom around the ankle. Each strap is fastened by a rectangular buckle on the outer side of the boot. Buckles on the boots are black. The four horizontal straps excess (tongues) should be cut at an approximately 45 degree angle (top to bottom) and not be longer than 1 inch (25mm). There are 4 ribs (including 5 piped edges) from the sides of the boot starting at the ankle. The heel of the boot has four pleats wrapping around the back of the boot. The sole is flat. Three vertical ribs (including four piped edges) of equal width.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Features a hidden zipper up the entire length of the boot on the back Have a tapered sole at the front.

	Lightsaber A cross guard saber which is painted silver at the top and fades to a dark gunmetal color. A red wire at the side and a red disk at the bottom adorn the saber. The saber is worn and shows visible wear and tear. The saber matches visual reference of the screen used saber The blades are not a required component.
