Context: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Trained and equipped for combat in tropical environments, Shoretroopers patrol the beaches and bunkers of the secret Imperial complex on the planet Scarif.



This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.


  • This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum.
  • GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum.
  • Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval.
  • Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size.
  • Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.


Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.



ST-Helmet-LG.jpg Helmet
  • Tan with moderate weathering.
  • There is an orange-red circular emblem on the right side of the visor, approximately 30 mm in diameter.
  • Visor is trimmed in black along the lower edge.
  • Ear covers have one closed recess with 1 large and 1 small raised circle.
  • “Hole” pattern snout aerator.
  • One recessed vent on each side of the aerator.
  • 2 wedge shaped recesses on the outer edge of each mandible.
  • Rear of the helmet has 6 closed recesses on each side (total of 12).
  • Rear bottom helmet lip has 2 long closed recesses.
  • Two six-finned chin greeblies.
  • Lenses sufficiently dark enough to obscure the costumer's eyes.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Helmet base color is Sahara Beige.
  • Circular emblem matches PANTONE 18-1445 TPX ("Spicy Orange") closely.
  • Chin Cup and strap added (hard hat chin strap with cup with 3 oblong cut outs).
  • Lenses are curved.
  • Second ridge on top of the tear drop that sits against the lens must be present.
  • (Optional) Under the blaster shield and above the lens, there is a black recess curve, at each end there are 3 oblong shaped recesses each 5mm x 3mm.
  • (Optional)The 6 closed vent slots on each side of the helmet are slightly angled forward towards the face.
  • (Optional) Small rectangle recess at the top inner mandibles (optional).
  • (Optional)The rear end of the ear plate is slightly angled forward towards the face.




Generic Balaclava.jpg Balaclava

A balaclava is a black head sock/hood that is worn under the helmet and is used primarily to hide any view of the wearer's skin and/or facial hair.

  • Ribbed section is dark grey or black horizontal ribbing.
  • Bib has vertical ribbing and is the same color and material as the undershirt.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • The zipper zips from top to bottom.





ST Shirt-LG.png Shirt
  • Grey material with horizontal ribbing on arms and torso.
  • A neck seal and bib with vertical ribbing attached to the shirt is acceptable.
    • If one piece with the shirt, they must meet the same criteria as the separate neck seal.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • The shirt is a cotton jersey material.
  • There is a honeycomb-shaped mesh material under each armpit running from the stitch seam and forward towards the chest.
  • If present, the zipper zips from top to bottom.




ST Chest-B-LG.jpg Chest Plate
  • Tan with moderate weathering.
  • There are the four vertical sections of the upper chest painted grey-blue leaving tan indentations in between sections.
  • Left side section is painted grey-blue.
  • Black foam extends past the arm openings.
  • Recess on the bottom left is painted black.
  • Buckle greeblies are attached to upper chest plate.
  • Shoulder straps are tan with moderate weathering and attach to the chest plate at the buckle.
  • Chest and back plate meet flush at the lower sides.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armour color is Sahara Beige.
  • Blue color is layered Ford Nordic Blue, with light sprays of matte black and grey aging spray.
  • Foam is Plastezote or Plastezote-like material.
  • The shoulder buckle has a slight different shape to the shin buckles.
    • Pin bar closed and not split above the screw.
    • Screw grove is covered and the rear lever bar is longer on length and the curve is slighter and more square than shin buckle.
  • (Optional) The buckles have a 25mm x 10mm x 6mm slot attachment fitted to the front buckle bar.
  • (Optional) The Chest plate has a slot recess 27mm x 12 mm x 3mm for the buckles to slot into, the buckle sits 2-3mm above the chest plate.





ST BackPlate-LG.jpg Back Plate
  • Tan with moderate weathering.
  • Collar extends upward and tapers to the chest plate.
  • Shoulder straps are tan with moderate weathering.
  • There are two raised slots on each shoulder for the straps to fit into.
  • Black foam extends past the arm openings.
  • A circle recess is on the right side of the top ledge.
  • Back has two large cut out recesses with vent details and greeblies inside.
    • The walls of the two boxes can be black or dark brown.
    • The vent details above the greeblies are cut out and backed with black material.
  • Each recess has a different and specific set of black or brown greeblies inside:
    • Left side recess:
      • A rectangle shape greeblie with an angled right side end with 5 panels.
      • The first left panel has a tube on top that runs up the left side and across the top of the recess.
      • On the right side a heat sink greeblie is fitted.
    • Right side recess:
      • A long thin strip has 2 flat ends with approximately 17 cylinder shaped teeth in the middle.
      • Below it is a rectangle shape greeblie with a moon-shaped end on the right.
      • Approximately 1/3 of the left side is flat followed by a thin line recess and 7x3 rows of oblong-shaped indents.
      • On the right side is a circle type hose connector.
  • There is an oblong greeblie centered below the 2 large recesses.
  • There is a small raised circle greeblie centered below the oblong greeblie.
  • Bottom left has a rectangle cut out with the left side stepped.
    • The floor of the cut out is black.
    • The walls inside are tan.
  • Half circle indent is on the left side beneath the backpack section.
  • There are five (5) tapered vents on the lower sides.
  • Chest and back plate meet flush at the sides.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armor base color is Sahara Beige.
  • Foam is Plastezote or plastezote-style material.
  • There is a small circle cut out approximately 5mm in diameter above and to the left hand side corner of the left large recess.
  • There are 2 small square cut outs approximately 5mm x 5mm above and to the right hand side of the left large recess.
  • There are 2 small rectangle raised greeblies directly above both large recess vents.
  • There is a small recess on the bottom right side of the back plate.
  • There is a stepped ledge at the bottom of the main back box.
  • There is a rectangle shaped line cut recess on the edge of the back plate, positioned halfway down the right side.
  • There are 2 small rectangle recesses directly behind both raised shoulder strap slots.





ST Captain Ab.png Abdomen Section
  • Tan with moderate weathering.
  • The vertical areas on both sides of the raised center abdomen plate are painted black:
  • Center has a raised square section with a raised plate.
    • Left side of the plate has a large ridged rectangle with nine ridges below.
    • Above the central section is a double lone rectangle greeblie.
  • Abdomen sides:
    • Each side has a raised diagonal strip.
    • Left side is painted grey-blue, from the front left side black strip to the raised diagonal strip.
    • A black stripe is painted behind each diagonal strip.
  • The rear has a central cover plate.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armour base color is Sahara Beige.
  • Blue color is layered Ford Nordic Blue, with light sprays of matte black and grey ageing spray.




ST Shoulder-B-LG.png Shoulder Armor
  • Tan with moderate weathering.
  • Ridge along the center of the shoulder bell is raised and beveled.
  • Left shoulder is grey-blue with one horizontal white stripe and two smaller black stripes on each side, with moderate weathering.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armour base color is Sahara Beige.
  • The top black stripe is thicker than the bottom black stripe.
  • Blue color is layered Ford Nordic Blue, with light sprays of matte black and grey ageing spray.
  • White stripe is flat white or matte white.
  • Black is flat black or matte black.





ST shoretrooper biceps.png Biceps
  • Bicep cover strips are raised and beveled with an added strip layer on top.
  • Left bicep is tan with moderate weathering.
  • Right bicep armor is painted red with three yellow stripes on the cover strip, with moderate weathering.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armour base color is Sahara Beige.
  • Right Bicep Red color is Toyota Red 3E5.
  • Yellow stripes are flat yellow.




ST shoretrooper forearm B.png Forearms
  • Right forearm is tan with moderate weathering.
  • Left forearm is tan with moderate weathering. There is a horizontal grey-blue stripe on the elbow side and a yellow horizontal stripe directly below it.
    • The yellow stripe begins approximately above the fifth recessed section from the wrist end of the forearm, and ends approximately just below the eighth recessed section from the wrist end of the forearm.
    • The grey-blue stripe begins at the bottom of the eighth recessed section from the wrist end of the forearm, and covers the remainder of the elbow end of the forearm.
  • Cover strips are raised and beveled with an added strip layer on top.
  • Raised section contains twelve recessed areas.
  • Forearm may be shortened due to height restrictions.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armour base color is Sahara Beige.
  • Blue color is layered Ford Nordic Blue, with light sprays of matte black and grey aging spray.
  • Yellow color is flat yellow.




ST shoretroper gloves.png Gloves/Hand Plates
  • Gloves:
    • Black leather or leather-like material on the palm, thumb, and forefinger.
    • The palm has 5 raised padded sections.
    • The black oval detail is aligned with the index finger of each hand.
    • Extend underneath the forearm armor.
  • Hand plates:
    • Tan with moderate weathering.
    • Roughly pentagonal in shape.
    • Oblong recess on the front edge.
    • Mounted securely over the back of the gloves.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armour color is Sahara beige





ST Belt-AB-LG.png Belt
  • Brown and made from two nylon straps sewn together with a zig-zag stitch pattern down the middle.
  • Approximately 76mm wide. 
  • Drop boxes are tan with moderate weathering and consist of:
    • Three standard drop boxes.
    • One extended drop box.
    • Two medium boxes with top detail.
    • Two small boxes with no detail.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Drop boxes are Sahara Beige.
  • Long drop box is hinged





ST shoretrooper thermaldet.png Rear Belt Plate Assembly
  • Tan with moderate weathering.
  • Each part of the assembly is attached to a belt cover plate the same width as the belt.
  • Assembly consists of a one horizontal thermal detonator can, a vertical thermal detonator can and one standard drop box.
  • The horizontal thermal detonator is a circular canister with evenly spaced grooves extending to the end caps. The end caps have a recess on the top.
  • Second vertical thermal detonator canister:
    • Fixed to the left side of the standard thermal detonator.
    • Webbing the same color as the belt, wraps around the canister.
    • Recessed on top and bottom sections.
    • Top recess features a greeblie detail painted silver.
  • One standard dropbox on the right side of the thermal detonator.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armour plate, Detonator and Drop Box base color is Sahara Beige.




ST Hips-LG.jpg Hip-plates
  • Tan with moderate weathering.
  • Trapezoidal plate covering the left and right quarters of the upper leg.
  • Hang from the abdomen armor with the rear straps connecting behind the thermal detonator.
  • Three “hose fitting” greeblies attach to the left rear strap.
  • A small oiler-style pouch attaches to the right rear strap.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armour base color is Sahara Beige.
  • Hip armor is made of Plastezote or Plastezote-style material style with plastic sheets for the armor on top.





ST shoretrooper pouch.png Pouch
  • Yugoslavian M49 - M56 SMG style ammo pouch or replica. Replica must be made from leather or leather-like material
  • Pouch is fitted with two straps:
    • Left strap is snapped to the underside of the abdomen.
    • Right strap lays between ab and chest plates, over the belt. Snaps to the upper right side of the abdomen, past the black groove.





ST Pants-LG.png Trousers
  • Brown canvas or duck cloth material.
  • Flare out to the sides above the knee.
  • Moderately weathered.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • There is a diamond-shaped gusset on the inside of the knee area.
  • There are two vertical rows of lace holes with black laces that run from beneath the outside of the knee to the bottom of the leg.





ST shoretrooper shins.png Greaves
  • Tan with moderate weathering.
  • Close in the back.
  • Cover Strips are raised and beveled with an added layer strip on top.
  • The trapezoid shin plate (sniper knee plate) is affixed to the left greave.
  • The “T” shin plate is affixed to the right greave.
  • A harness style buckle greeblie is attached to the outside edge of the upper shin plate.
  • A ski boot-style buckle greeblie is attached to the outside edge of the lower shin plate.
  • Straps extend from each buckle, and the inner side of the shin plate.
  • The straps may have a gap in the back of the shin or extend around the shin in one piece.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Armour base color is Sahara Beige.
  • The top layer on the rear raised cover strip ends under the top buckle strapping and the bottom layer continues to the top edge.
  • The strap will fit all the way around the upper and lower leg connections with no gap. Moulded straps are not acceptable.





ST shoretrooper boots.png Boots
  • Orca Bay Brecon Chelsea style or similar.
  • Moderately weathered.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Boots are Orca Bay Brecon Chelsea Boots (Havana, Sand or Elk are all acceptable when weathered correctly).





Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.



ST RO e11b.jpg E-11B Blaster
  • Based on a real or replica Sterling sub-machine gun, scratch-built, cast, 3D print or a modified commercial toy Stormtrooper blaster.
  • Tactical flashlight (Surefire scout M300 or replica) mounted on right side of barrel.
  • Magazine is extended length.
  • Power cylinder is larger with 2 outer cylinders and 2 smaller central cylinder
  • Scope is a M38 1943 version.
  • Scope rail can be fitted with rail blocks and a middle rail support block is optional.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Base is based on S&T Airsoft sterling with closed working parts (no spring)
  • Screws used are M4 x 25mm Allen screw/bolts and sunken Allen screws for power cylinders.





ST E22-LG.jpg E-22 Blaster
  • Based on a real or replica Sterling sub-machine gun, scratch-built, cast, 3D print or a modified commercial toy Stormtrooper blaster. It has a extended stock attached at the rear and a extended front housing with second lower barrel.
  • Tactical flashlight (Surefire scout M300 or replica) mounted on right side of barrel.
  • Magazine is extended length.
  • Power cylinder is larger with 2 outer cylinders and 2 smaller central cylinders
  • Scope is a M38 1943 version
  • Scope rail is fitted onto rail blocks, one inside the rear sight and the other at the front end of the rail.
  • There are 3 swivel studs fitted, one on the rear stock and one each side of the front barrel housing.
  • Sling is 25mm webbing strap that is adjustable using a silver 25mm 3 fixed bar webbing buckle (optional).
  • Sling is fitted with Talon quick release 25mm swivel or replica (optional).
  • Red lights fitted on both sides of the rear housing, Hengstler fitted with a red light for the 3 forward tubes and 2 small red lights fitted into the rear barrel housing under the torch, the lights are permanent and are non flashing or pulsed (optional hero version only).
