Detachment: Underworld Detachment
Context: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

Sim Aloo is member of the so called "Inner Circle" of advisers to Emperor Palpatine. His calm and quiet appearance might make one think he is minor servant to the Emperor; but he proves to be a powerful and wise consultant to Palpatine.



This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.


  • This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum.
  • GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum.
  • Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval.
  • Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size.
  • Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.


Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.


Sim Aloo Face.png Hair and Facial Appearance
  • The face and skin is pale (not white) and wrinkled.
  • The eyebrows and any hair that peeks out from the hat is heavily greyed or white.




Sim Aloo Hat.png Hat
  • Made of deep purple flat velvet fabric that matches the outer robe. Panne velvet is not acceptable.
  • Edges of the hat are piped with silk or velvet piping of deep pink or red color.
  • Consists of separate sections.
    • The front section is shaped like a mitre with piping on the top edge.
    • The crown section is attached between the front-section and the second top-section. It has no piping.
    • The second top section sits above the crown section but under the third top section. It has a straight front edge which is piped.
    • The third top section sits above the second top section and is curves below the top edge of the rear section. The front edge piping contains a wave shape with a peak on the highest part of the section.
    • The rear section is entirely piped; the neck-piping hides a bit underneath the lower edge.
    • The ear section is affixed below the sides of the front section, around the neck. There is no piping.




Sim Aloo Inner Robe.png Inner Robe
  • Made of bright to medium red light-weight fabric with a smooth texture.
  • Kimono style cut/pattern.
  • The sleeves extend at least one half to one inch past the wrist bone and end with cuffs.
  • The robe extends to less than an inch above the foot wear in both the front and back.
  • The robe has a right over left closure with a fastener beneath the neck opening to keep the closure in line.




Sim Aloo Outer Robe.png Outer Robe
  • Made of deep purple flat velvet fabric that matches the hat. Panne velvet is not acceptable.
  • Lined with a lighter purple to lavender fabric.
  • Right over left closure.
  • Robe falls from the shoulders to the hem which is less than one inch above the floor.
  • Sleeves reach to just below the wrists.
  • Bottom of the sleeves extends to just above wearer's knees when hands are folded across wearer's stomach.
  • There is a stripe made of black flat cord approx. 1" above the end of the sleeve, running around the entire circumference of the sleeve at this point.
  • There is a separate, triangular shaped flap that reaches from the shoulders down to the crotch in the front and to the posterior in the back. To the wearers right side the triangle's lower end is running inside the left and wider side of this cloth.
  • The fabric is pleated in the front from the shoulder seam down to the circumference seam at the hip.
  • The fabric it pleated on the back running from the shoulder seam to the hip-circumference seam.




Sim Aloo Gloves.png Gloves
  • Black in color, made from silk, velvet or other light-weight fabric.




Sim Aloo Belt.png Belt
  • Black in color.
  • Made from leather, fabric or elastic rubber straps that are braided.
  • If a buckle is used, it is hidden underneath the triangular flap of the outer robe in the back.




DS Janus boots.png Shoes
  • Black, non-textured, leather or leather-like material.
  • Free from any visible adornment, straps, buckles (etc).
  • Boots can be any length as long as they are concealed by the skirting on the robe.
