Description: TIE Pilot: Reserve Pilot Prefix: TI Detachment: Jolly Roger Squadron Context: Star Wars Episode VI, Expanded Universe Many of the characters appearing on the Death Star bridge went nameless in the films. The Expanded Universe often fills these gaps, including the story of the off duty TIE pilot. The Decipher card series and Star Wars Character Encyclopedia name several of these crew members as TIE pilots, providing both back story and visual reference for them.

For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met. While the Jolly Roger Squadron does not have any detachment specific costume certification programs, some parts of the costume below may be shared with other detachments that do. Features listed in blue or red are not required for 501st approval, but are noted here for those interested in these additional details.

This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type. This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum. GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum. Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval. Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size. Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.

Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.

	Imperial Hat, black Fabric is a medium weight suiting material matching the pants and tunic if applicable. Gabardine style weave is most accurate. Base of the hat is conical, with a crown about 4" (101.6 mm) tall. Front and rear "flaps" overlap on the sides and are about 4" (101.6 mm) high. Front bill extends 3" down, decorated with 5, 6 or 7 concentric stitches. Imperial Code Disk is positioned in the center of the front vertical flap.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Code Disk has a notch detail on the outermost disk.
	OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable): Code disk exactly matches screen-used prop.

	Flight Suit One piece black coverall/jumpsuit/flight suit with a front invisible zipper. Approximately 1.5" (38.1mm) tall mandarin collar with a chevron shaped, left-over-right Velcro closure. There is a horizontal seam or double-topstitched line that runs across the upper chest, but does not extend around the back. A silver or white Imperial Cog emblem, on a black background, is present on both shoulders. Can be vinyl or embroidered patch. The cog is 2.75" (69.85mm) or 3" (76.2mm) in diameter, and 1" (25.4mm) from the shoulder seam. On the left forearm there is a commpad pocket, approximately 5" (127mm) wide by 5.75" (146.05mm) tall, with no flap and a 2.25" (57.15mm) window in it. On the left bicep, about 1.5” (38.1mm) below the cog emblem, there is a code cylinder pocket with no flap, and vertical stitching dividing it into five pen sleeves. On suits with cheveron pocket flaps, last two long pen sleeves may be pleated The bottom front corner of the pocket is cut off at a bevel on the side pointing in view direction, with the broader upside forming the border of the pen sleeves. The right sleeve has a cargo pocket, about 6" (152mm) wide and 5.75" (146mm) on the bicep, and approximately 1.5" (38.1mm) below the cog emblem. The pocket has a 2" (50.8mm) flap. (2) large chest pockets and (2) large front pockets below the belt, without any zipper or flaps. Pockets with no flaps are rectangle shaped with a curved opening on top outside corners. pocket flaps may be rectanglular or chevron shaped. (2) front thigh pockets with flaps, similar in proportion as the right arm sleeve pocket. Size may differ — (the width of the front pockets equals the width of the leg pockets). There are no rank bars of any kind on the uniform. There are no leg pockets below the knees.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Imperial cogs on the shoulders should be silver and be vinyl (not embroidered). Both Shoulder cogs must have one spoke aligned with shoulder seam (one cog spoke in the 12 o'clock position) Large 'V" shaped panel on chest area extending from upper seam to belt seam. The suit has a pointed collar in the back if chevron pocket flaps are present. If suit has rectangular pockets it must have a unpointed collar back At the top corner of the bevel, there is a horizontal stitch that runs the length of the first 3 pen sleeves.
	OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable): Last two code cylinder sleeves are pleated on suit with chevron pocket flaps. Last two code cylinder sleeves are flat on suit with rectangle pocket flaps

	Patches Silver or white embroidered or vinyl matching the reference photos as closely as possible. A silver or white Imperial Cog emblem, on a black background, is present on both shoulders. Can be vinyl or embroidered patch. The cog is 2.75" (69.85mm) or 3" (76.2mm) in diameter, and 1" (25.4mm) from the shoulder seam. Both Shoulder cogs must have one spoke aligned with shoulder seam (one cog spoke in the 12 o'clock position)
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): The cogs should be silver in color on black vinyl backround.

	Imperial Communications Pad Rectangular communications pad, with buttons and detailing in red, olive green and light grey as shown, on a dark grey background. Commpad is most commonly worn buttons down (toward glove) but any pocket orientation is acceptable Comm pad is contoured slightly to fit the arm. Humbrol color #s for reference (paint need not be Humbrol brand, just similar shades) : Light grey #126/ Red #19 / Olive green #155 / Base Pad color Dark Grey #32
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Compad can be weathered Compad is not electronically lit.
	OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable): Commpad must be weathered with black splatter

	Black Gauntlet Gloves Black, leather or leather-like, enclosed fingered, non-textured, (normal leather grain/texture/lines are acceptable) fitted gauntlet style. No buckles, straps, or decorative stitching. Three straight lines, on the back of the hand (that match some references), are optional.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Gloves are made of leather.
	OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable): Gauntlets slightly flair-out, upward from the wrist to the mid-forearm.

	Belt The belt is constructed from a non-textured leather or a leather-like material. Approximately 2" (50.8 mm) in width, up to 2.5" (63.5 mm) is acceptable. There are no loops on the belt. Belt may have grooves on the edges of the belt strap or be smooth. Both are acceptable Ungrooved belt may have unfinished (tan) edges. Belt may have visible sizing holes A single large snap or rivet is visible approximately 1" (25.4 mm) from the buckle. The belt may be worn with the snap to the right or left of the wearer. The buckle is constructed from a horizontally brushed metal, or metal looking material. The buckle size is approximately 2 5/8" (66.7 mm) high and 4 1/8" (104.5 mm) wide with 0.5" (12.7 mm) radius rounded corners. Buckle is adorned with an Imperial Code Disk at the center. Disc may be notched or un-notched Please refer to the Imperial Buckle reference page for information on accurate and inaccurate style buckles.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Belt is made of leather. Belt is 2" wide Buckle is flat or may have a very slight curve.

	Boots Mid-Calf high black leather or leather like material. Boots must be mid-calf height, Officer height tall boots or similar are not acceptable. Boots may have a single adjustment strap at the top outside of the boot, with the buckle no wider than 1". Buckle need not be functional. Buckles should not be shiny/can be painted dingy grey or gun-metal color. Metal sole toe guard plate may be present on the front of the boots. Tread on the soles and heels is acceptable Any holes in boot must be filled and appear consistent with rest of boot. Zippers on the inside or back of the boot are acceptable, so long as they are concealed by the same material as the boot and not visible German “knobelbecher” style boots are most canon.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Boots are made of leather. Boots must have a single adjustment strap at the top outside of the boot, with the buckle no wider than 1".
	OPTIONAL Level three certification (if applicable): Original German boots (or “Knobelbechers”) or an authentic replication thereof.

Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.

	Code Cylinders 1 to 3 may be worn Rod Style: machined aluminum, resin or wood rod with flaring disc detail at top.

DL-44 Blaster Pistol Manufactured by BlasTech Industries, the DL-44 Blaster has the ability to charge a heavier blast, nearly twice as powerful as similar pistols. Because the sidearm is highly modifiable and is one of the few blasters shown to have the ability to penetrate imperial armor, the Empire has placed heavy restrictions on this model and in many cases ownership is outlawed outside of imperial forces. Scratch built or high-end prop replica.

	DH-17 Blaster Manufactured by BlasTech Industries, the DH-17 is a standard-issue Imperial sidearm for shipboard combat. The energy and power of the weapon is tuned to penetrate necessary targets, yet it will not puncture a starship’s hull. Scratch built or high-end prop replica.

	E-11 Blaster Manufactured by BlasTech Industries, the E-11 is standard-issue for many Imperial troops. Light, compact yet powerful, the E-11 blaster is always in high demand throughout the galaxy. Based on a real or replica Sterling sub-machine gun, scratch-built, or a modified commercial toy Stormtrooper blaster.
	OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable): Folding stock. Stock does not need to function. A real or replica ammo counter - based off of a Hengstler counter - should be present. D-ring mounted on the rear. Correct style scope. Two power cylinders on the magazine. Scratch-built, resin cast, Hyperfirm rubber cast blasters should have a total of 6 t-racks on blaster (leaving the lowest row on the Hengstler side un-covered). If using the Hasbro E11 toy blaster, it is modified to have the correct number of T-tracks (6 total), with a lower row of open vent holes on the magazine housing side. This is accomplished by covering the pre-existing rows of holes with T-tracks, then grinding off the lower integrated T-track on the magazine housing side, and drilling a new row of holes in its place. 3D printed blasters can not contain visible print lines and must be sanded smooth for a more realistic appearance.

	Holster Holster is the appropriate color and style for the specific blaster. Holster is not present if no blaster is carried.
