Description: Imperial Praetorian Guard
Prefix: TR
Detachment: Sovereign Protectors
Context: The Mandalorian: Season 3
Clad in ornate crimson armor, the Imperial Praetorian Guards are elite warriors of the Shadow Council ready to meet any threat with a savage response. Their red armor was a deliberate echo of that worn by Emperor Palpatine’s royal protectors.

For 501st membership only the requirements in black need to be met.

The Sovereign Protectors Detachment has defined additional optional levels of costuming excellence.

  • Due to the novel nature and complexity of this costume, it is highly recommended that GMLs consult with the Sovereign Protectors Detachment via the forum link above and/or via the main 501st Legion Forums for advice prior to clearance.

This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.

  • This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum.
  • GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum.
  • Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval.
  • Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size.
  • Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.

Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.

Cog.jpg General Construction Notes
  • All armor pieces are to be finished in a glossy deep red finish and must be identical in color.
  • Any 3D printed components must be finished in such a way that all print lines are filled and the surface appears smooth and uniform.

IPG Bucket.png Helmet
  • The front of the helmet has a “T” visor with the nosepiece coming down the middle of the visor with a slight taper. The nosepiece extends past the forehead, continues over the head, and ends at the back of the head.
  • The nosepiece ends right before the bottom of the helmet at the same level as the detail line.
  • The outside of the “T” visor (excepting the nosepiece) has a step. The visor is black and obscures the face completely, and ends at the bottom of the nosepiece.
  • There is a circular indent located in front of the helmet around the “T” visor, starting from the top of the sloped section with the highest point at around the forehead.
  • There is a sloped section at the bottom of the helmet that extends around the bottom perimeter of the helmet. There is a detail line around the bottom perimeter that is present all around. There is a wide groove where the sloped section meets the rest of the helmet which goes around the back of the helmet.
  • There are earpieces on both sides of the helmet, square at the bottom and semi-circular on top. The bottom of the earpiece also slightly follows the curve of the wide groove so that when viewed from the front it follows the sweeping upward angle of the groove.

IPG YokeBack.png Back/Yoke
  • The back plate contains an “O II” design, and both the O and II are black in color.
  • There are no visible seams on the back/yoke.
  • The yoke portion extends over the wearer’s shoulders and curves under the armpits.
  • There is a “racing fin” detail on the top of the shoulder section of the yoke. It extends from the collarbone area to the top of the back raised area and spans the width of the yoke. There is a groove around the perimeter of the detail and it is not tall enough to interfere with the helmet.

IPG Chest.png Chest Plate
  • The chest plate overlaps the abdominal plate.
  • The center-top of the chest plate is recessed and black on the side and upward facing edges.
  • A smaller clasp greeblie shall be present on each side of the chest, just inside a small indented area the size of the greeblie.
  • There is a slight groove running vertical on each lateral side of the chest that angles toward the center.
  • Six recessed black ovals are on the wearer’s right side, left of the greeblie. These are either painted black or are cut out and backed with black material.
  • The chest is closed on both sides beneath the arms with the front chest overlapping the back chest.
  • There are two rectangle shapes outlined by a groove on both sides of the front chest plate beneath the armpit.
  • Grooves on sides of chest should show clear separation.

IPG Shoulders.png Shoulder Bells
  • Shoulder bells cover the entire top of the shoulder.
  • All edges are raised and the lower corners on both front and back are cut at an angle.
  • There is a groove starting from the corner where the lower horizontal edge meets the angled corner. This groove is angled outwards to follow the contour of the bell and ends on the same corner at the other side of the bell.
  • There is a rectangular piece extending from the bottom perimeter of the shoulder bell. It follows the horizontal curve of the bell and has slightly angled vertical edges. The same raised edges seen on the shoulder bells are present in this piece as well.

IPG Biceps.png Biceps
  • Biceps enclose the upper arm from the front, outside and back. The inside is open and has a piece of fabric the same material as the undersuit spanning it.
  • The bottom edge is not flat, rather it is slightly curved with the lowest point at the midpoint of the outside aspect.
  • The inner edges of the bicep are angled outwards from the middle to the top.
  • There are two grooves present running around the solid parts of the bicep. The bottom groove has a circular section that rises towards the top of the bicep. The top groove is flat and intersects the rectangle detail.
  • A raised rectangle detail is present on the outside aspect. This detail starts at the top and ends just below the top groove. The bottom edge of this detail is sloped.

IPG Forearm.png Forearm Armor
  • The front strip is beveled and approximately ⅛" thick that does not extend beyond the bicep, and has a smaller cover strip layered thereon.
  • Forearms are loosely held closed in the back. Any closure method used must not contrast with the color of the armor and must not be visible.
  • Cover strips will cover both the top and bottom joints.
  • The outside middle of both forearms has a “rail” detail consisting of 12 recessed rectangles in between two raised ridges on both sides.

IPG Ab.png Abdomen Section
  • The abdomen section must wrap around the wearer’s body. Any seams must be at the back and must be hidden by the cape as to not be visible.
  • The abdomen has 7 boxes attached that match the order and placement shown against the armor.
  • The large box has a small black recessed square on the lower left to the wearer.
  • The second box to the right of the wearer has a small black recessed rectangle near the top.
  • The boxes should sit against the abdominal plate with minimal to no gaps.

IPG Hip Plates.png Side Hip Plates
  • There are two sets of hip plates located on the wearer’s left and right hips. Both sets are composed of a top and bottom plate and have the same finish as the rest of the armor.
  • Both sets of plates conform to the wearer’s hips.
    • Top Plate
      • Each top plate is connected to the bottom of the abdomen via 4 red strings/tassels, routed through holes at the bottom of the abdomen and at the top of the plate.
      • There is a large raised rectangle in the middle of the top plate.
      • There are two raised details near the lower left and lower right corner. The raised details have rounded ridges, are angled downward toward the center of the plate, and run parallel to each other with very little to no space between.
    • Bottom Plate
      • The bottom plate is similar in shape to the top plate and does not have the raised rectangle in the center.
      • The bottom plate is attached to the underside of the top plate, close to the middle. It is attached in such a way that the top plate can swing freely independent of the bottom plate.
      • The raised details are present in the lower left and lower right corners and are identical to the details on the top plate.

IPG Shin.png Shins
  • There are seams on the inside and outside of the shins, with the opening on the inside.
  • A clip greeblie is present high and across the outside seams of each shin.
  • The wearer’s left outside shin includes two vertical thin boxes that are seamless.
  • There is a rounded rectangle at the bottom outer front of each shin, which is visible above the spat. The recessed area is black.

IPG Spats.png Spats
  • The spats wrap around the lower ankle, just below the black ankle rectangles.
  • The spats are enclosed on the outside of the ankle with a greeblie that overlaps the open side.
  • There is a visible seam on the inside of the ankle.

IPG Gloves.png Gloves
  • Black gloves made of leather or leather like material with no visible decorative stitching or adornments.
  • Gloves extend past the wearer’s wrist so that no skin is visible.
  • Back of gloves feature a shiny red, padded leather or leather-like panel with 3 evenly spaced, wide, horizontally stitched sections, and an additional, narrow, horizontally stitched section at the edge nearest the base of the thumb.
  • Red panels cover entire back of hand from near the base of thumb to the knuckle.
  • Side edges of red panels are stitched into the side seams of the gloves.

IPG Boots.png Boots
  • The boots rise to above-ankle height, and are made of red leather or leather-like material.
  • There is a seam down both sides of the front that swoops out to the side of the foot.
  • There is a vertical zipper on the inside that spans the height of the boot.
  • There is a black flat sole with no heel.
  • No buckles or laces are present.

IPG Suit.png Undersuit
  • Either a one or two piece, long-sleeved garment that is dark maroon in color.
  • If the undersuit is a two piece garment, it appears to be a single garment when worn.
  • Made from a cotton or cotton blend fabric and is moderately form fitted to the wearer but not tight fitting.
  • A mandarin collar with a closure covers the wearer’s neck.

IPG Balaclava.png Balaclava
  • A black balaclava is worn and covers the wearer’s neck and head.

IPG Skirts Cape.png Skirts and Cape
  • Made from a red suede-like material or fabric that is similar in color to the armor

  • Vertical and bottom edges of the panels are either all raw or all folded
  • If the edge is raw, it must be free of any fraying

  • The skirts are comprised of 4 trapezoidal panels; front, rear and two sides that wrap around the costumer’s lower body
  • Top of skirts rest underneath the abdominal armor
  • The front skirt panel slightly overlaps the side skirt panels throughout the entire length of the skirt.
