Context: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Imperial Navy commandos are lightly armored soldiers trained for watchman patrol, guard and monitor duty. They are typically stationed at key Imperial facilities where they provide accurate covering fire for other units. Some Commandos, trained in piloting "All Terrain Scout Transports" were deployed to the Battle of the TIE Fighter Construction Facility. Squads generally consist of five to seven Commandos and a troop Sergeant. In some instances, there is an additional officer or a combat medic.



This Visual Guide has been reviewed by the detachment staff and the LMO team and is certified for use as a minimum approval guideline for GMLs. GMLs are free to approve this costume type.


  • This document is not intended to be a detailed how-to on costume construction; rather a visual guide to be used for 501st costume approval. Details on construction may be found on the respective costume detachment web forum.
  • GMLs uncertain about an aspect of submitted costume shall post questions in the appropriate DL/GML peer review section of the Legion forum.
  • Measurements given in this document are intended to be approximate and generalized; not criteria for approval.
  • Requirements for all 501st costumes are proportional to the wearer in scale, fit and size.
  • Text descriptions are only one part of the guideline. GMLs and costumers must consider both text and pictures (CRL and Reference) when reviewing the costume.


Required Costume Components

The following costume components are present and appear as described below.


Navy Commando Helmet.jpg Helmet
  • Modified Stormtrooper helmet with Cold Weather style shroud.
  • Armor is painted gloss or semi-gloss white.
  • Two indented triangles on forehead point away from one another.
  • The lens is one piece.
  • Colored green or dark gray, the lens is sufficiently dark enough to obscure the wearer’s features.
  • There is a ridge present that outlines the frown.
  • The frown is painted black and and has 8-10 removed teeth sections.
  • Mesh may be used behind the frown to obscure the face of the wearer.
  • Vocoder (vertically ribbed chin detail) is painted black.
  • Aerators/ Hovi mix tips (cylinders on either side of the vocoder) are black or painted black.
  • Armor is weathered with various scuff marks and shades of grey.





Generic Balaclava.jpg Balaclava
  • A balaclava is a black head sock/hood that is worn under the helmet and is used primarily to hide any view of the wearer’s skin and/or facial hair.

  • Black with horizontal ribs, fitted to the wearer, and extending from the base of the neck to conceal the entire neck.

  • The under suit is a one or two-piece black textile suit, such as military flight suits, motorcycle racing suits, industrial work clothing (Dickies), or similar suit modified appropriately.
  • Suit does not have any visible labels, logos, zippers or pockets (including built in flight suit pockets).

  • Armor is painted gloss or semi-gloss white.
  • Straps are securely mounted in front and may free float in back.
  • They may be affixed with rivets, Velcro, or adhesive.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

  • Scout Trooper-style shoulder armor.
  • Armor is painted gloss or semi-gloss white.
  • Shoulders are padded so as not to rest flat against the arms.
    • The top of the bell sits 3/4" - 1" above the natural shoulder.
  • Black Elastic is used to secure the armor around upper arm.
  • The armor is weathered with shades of grey.




Clone elbow copy.jpg Elbow Armor
  • Armor is painted gloss or semi-gloss white.
  • Elbow straps have a raised detail line at the top and bottom of the strap.
  • Armor has two parallel dashed detail slots on each outside edge of elbow at the strap connection.
  • Elbows are mirror images of each other with a notched area on the outside of the elbow above the detail marks.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

  • Armor is painted gloss or semi-gloss white.
  • The forearms are TK-style angled at the tops to match shape of clone forearms.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

  • Black in color, made of either rubber, nomex, leather, or leather-like material. *No visible straps, logos or designs.
  • The fingers are enclosed and non-textured.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Gloves are made of black rubber or latex.

  • Armor is painted gloss or semi-gloss white.
  • Roughly pentagonal in shape, the hand plates are mounted securely over the back of the glove.

  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.




Navy Commando Chest.jpg Chest Armor
  • Galactic Marine style chest armor, modified with TK abdomen button plate.
  • Armor is painted gloss or semi-gloss white.
  • There are 4 buttons total: (2) small buttons between (2) larger ones.
  • To the left of the buttons is a series of 9 horizontal TK-style ridges.
  • White U-Shaped gasket is present around the neck, arm openings & edge of chest armor.
  • 1" wide grey unit stripe detail is present around all edges of the chest armor apart from the bottom, inset ½" from the edge.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.




Ammo Pouch Black.jpg Ammo Pouch: Upper
  • Black in color, made of canvas, leather or leather-like German MP-40 style ammo pouch.
  • Worn on front of left shoulder.
    • Note: Additional (Lower) ammo pouches are attached to belt.
    • See: Belt section for details.

  • Armor is painted gloss or semi-gloss white.
  • Galactic Marine style back armor with an indented modified Clone insert.
    • Insert is grey and includes detailing consistent with visual references.
  • White U-Shaped gasket is present around neck, arm openings & bottom edge of back armor.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

  • Black to match flight suit.
  • In the center of the cummerbund is a ribbed section.
  • The horizontal ribs are 12” wide by 1” in height and extend from the codpiece to the chest armor.
  • At either side of the horizontal ribs is a vertical rib (one on each side).
  • These are 1" wide and go from top to bottom.

  • A black leather MP40 style ammunition pouch is attached to left side hip.
  • One white "flip Top" ARC style ammunition pouch is worn on the right hip.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

  • Two thermal detonators are attached to the belt.
    • One TK-style at back of belt.
    • One Modified style on front left hip.
  • TK-style (back) detonator has a white control panel with the controls closest to the right end cap.
  • Modified (front) detonator is half-sized and includes a white, triangular shaped control panel with a single control button.
    • Control panel and button are centered on detonator.
  • Clips may be used to attach the thermal detonator to the belt.




Navy Commando Holster.jpg Holster
  • Made of black leather or leather-like material.
  • Holster is worn on the right side.
  • May be attached to the belt from behind using rivets, or attached with loops covering the outside of the belt.




Navy Commando Shins.jpg Knee and Lower Leg Armor
  • TK style greaves that close securely in the rear.
  • Armor is painted gloss or semi-gloss white.
  • Armor pieces are widely spaced with a 2" cover strip at front.
  • Custom knee armor is directly attached to the greaves in a similar fashion as the TK Sniper plate.
  • TK-style ammo knee plates are attached to the ankle area of each greave.
  • Armor is weathered with shades of grey.

  • Boots are above ankle height and made of white leather or leather-like material.
  • Boots are lightly-weathered.
  • Small U-shaped elastic sections on both sides of the ankle.
  • Flat sole with a short heel.
  • No buckles or laces.
  • Jodhpur/ Chelsea-type boots or an equivalent style is acceptable.
    • Elvis or Mariachi boots are not allowed.
  • Boots have a semi-gloss or matte finish.
  • Boots are lightly weathered.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • There shall be no seam on the front of the boot.




Optional Accessories

Items below are optional costume accessories. These items are not required for approval, but if present appear as described below. If adding in an accessory after initial approval, the item still needs to be submitted to local GML for approval before use.

  • Field officer style backpack.
  • Scaled-down/ stylized version of a Sandtrooper pack.
  • Made to match visual references.





TK anh stunt e11.jpeg E-11 Blaster

Manufactured by BlasTech Industries, the E-11 is standard-issue for many Imperial troops. Light, compact yet powerful, the E-11 blaster is always in high demand throughout the galaxy.

  • Based on a real or replica Sterling sub-machine gun, scratch-built, or a modified commercial toy Stormtrooper blaster.


OPTIONAL Level two certification (if applicable):
  • Folding stock.
    • Stock does not need to function.
  • A real or replica ammo counter - based off of a Hengstler counter - should be present.
  • D-ring mounted on the rear.
  • Correct style scope.
  • Two power cylinders on the magazine.
  • Scratch-built, resin cast, Hyperfirm rubber cast blasters should have a total of 6 t-racks on blaster (leaving the lowest row on the Hengstler side un-covered).
  • If using the Hasbro E11 toy blaster, it is modified to have the correct number of T-tracks (6 total), with a lower row of open vent holes on the magazine housing side.
    • This is accomplished by covering the pre-existing rows of holes with T-tracks, then grinding off the lower integrated T-track on the magazine housing side, and drilling a new row of holes in its place.
  • 3D printed blasters can not contain visible print lines and must be sanded smooth for a more realistic appearance.

  • Comms antenna on Right temple (use CC Bacara as reference).
  • Command pauldron (custom shape; red in color).
  • A third Black Leather MP40 Ammunition pouch replaces white hip pouch on the grunt.
  • Field Backpack (Cut down/stylised version of a Sandtrooper pack, to match visual references) – compulsory for officers.




Navy Commando Animated Options.jpg Animated (Game) Variation
  • The back armor center box section is over-sized and travels directly into the neckline, covering almost the entire back armor.
  • Animated Clone belt.
  • Thermal detonators are squared to match game references.
  • Animated, ARC Trooper style "flip-top" pouches, or custom sized Leather MP-40 style pouches.
  • Custom, lower leg armor ankle cuffs, in style of Animated Clone belt.
