DOH-Duval Issues Blue-Green Algae Alert
The Florida Department of Health in Duval County (DOH-Duval) has issued a health alert for the presence of harmful blue-green algae toxins in the Ortega and St. Johns Rivers. The alerts are in response to water samples taken on August 27 and 28, 2024. The public should exercise caution in and around the Ortega River – Seminole Park and the St. Johns River – Stockton Park.

Mosquito-borne diseases can be spread through the bite of mosquitoes. These diseases may be caused by a virus, also known as arboviruses, or can be caused by parasites. Several of the mosquito species found in Florida are capable of transmitting diseases to humans, horses, and other animals. Symptoms of these illnesses can range from mild to very severe.
