History

edit

The Miss Globe pageant originated in 1925 with a competition held at the Emek Cinema in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, Turkey. It was conceived by Alien Mouradian, one of the cinema's directors, as a way to attract cinema audiences. The event was initially known as Dream Girl International, and the first winner was reported to be Alma F. Cavagnaro from the United States. However, Arak Çetin is also cited as the first titleholder, though some contemporary reports suggested the competition was unfairly judged. Due to this controversy, the cinema operators announced they would discontinue the competition shortly after its launch.[3]

Following this, Mouradian moved to the United States and continued organizing the Miss Globe contest, notably holding an event at the models' ball in Winnipesaukee, where Alma Cavagnaro was crowned.[3]

The first official trademark registration for the Miss Globe Beauty Contest was made in Turkey in 1950, under the auspices of the international film business RCA. The pageant became a traditional event and, in 1975, was acquired by Charlie See after Mouradian's death.[3]

Under See's leadership, the Miss Globe International contest was restructured and expanded. The final competition in Turkey was chaired by Süha Özgermi and held at the Halikarnas stage in Bodrum, Muğla. Subsequently, the pageant grew into a global event, with national competitions held in various countries, culminating in an international final.[3]

Before the pageant split into multiple organizations, several countries won multiple titles: The Philippines claimed 5 crowns, while Venezuela and the United States each won 4 crowns. Brazil secured 3 titles, and Albania, Germany, Canada, Australia, Russia, the Czech Republic, and the Dominican Republic each won 2 crowns. Other countries with a single crown include Switzerland, Algeria, Romania, Lithuania, Slovakia, Peru, Turkey, France, Argentina, Estonia, Turkmenistan, Spain, Norway, India, Vietnam, China, Mexico, Kosovo, and Malaysia.
