I visted Accra in Sept 2008. I only want to sum up the country with 3 thoughts 1. The traffic is like LA 2. The roads are like the back woods of Alaska. 3. The people are the nicest most caring and full of faith that I have ever met. I had an amazing time there. I went to 5 of the 10 regions.I saw much poverty all over the country however, they were very happy people and content with there lives. It would be nice if there were better leadership so that the people were better taken care of. I wanted to do so much when I was there. oh and please do not forget the food! amazing, i felt like i was in food heaven. -- —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ohemma ama (talkcontribs) 08:56, 5 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Accra is a beautiful place full of colors. 15:56, 12 January 2007 76.16.57.114 (Talk)

I lived in Ghana for two years between 2004 and 2006, and was a frequent visitor to Accra. I think this article is very flattering and one-sided. It reads like a tourist brochure. I read a lot about Accra's many "fine" public buildings, and "fine" attractions, but I read nothing about the slums, horrible congestion, pollution, and desperate poverty that so pervade Ghana's capital city. As for the "fine" public buildings, many of them are in a state of shocking disrepair. Accra may not be the worst city in West Africa (it's certainly better than most!), but that doesn't mean it's paradise. This article needs some objectify, but I'm reluctant to edit it because I am a newcomer to this wikipedia thing. Anyhow, take the flattery with a grain of salt. NG (August 31st, 2007)

Edit it as you see fit, NG. If you need any help with the editing, feel free to drop me a note. El_C 07:28, 31 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
I see the clear Point of view in this article. I have removed the "elegant", "fine", etc. in the introduction (looking for more), and if you spot any more of this please let me know. Although I have never lived in Ghana, I don't think that this is any better than, say, Freetown, or any other city. -68.224.117.152 (talk) 09:05, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've lived in Accra, I've never lived in Freetown but I hear it's very beautiful. However one thing that may contribute to differences in the cities, is the long civil war that freetown has suffered through. I suspect, that as a result of the civil war, the infrastructure is somewhat better in Accra than freetown. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.240.191.54 (talk) 04:53, 15 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Victoriasborg

edit

The lead contains the statement:

Accra has been Ghana's capital since 1877, and contains public buildings reflecting its transition from a 19th century suburb of Victoriasborg...

A 19th century suburb of where?? Victoriasborg is not wikilinked, indeed there is no article on en:WP under that title. Nor is Victoriasborg mentioned anywhere else in the Accra article. Does this mean that Accra was originally a suburb of a mysterious larger town called Victoriasborg, and that it ultimately grew and swallowed up its neighbour to the extent that Victoriasborg is now lost and forgotten in the mists of history? Or should "a 19th century suburb" read "the 19th century suburb" – i.e. the 19th century suburb called Victoriasborg developed into modern Accra – which still leaves the unanswered question of which, presumably larger, settlement Victoriasborg/Accra was a suburb OF in the 19th century. The current wording just leaves it unexplained and confusing.

Also, is there any need for a list of "attractions" in the lead (particularly with such tourist brochure puffery as "arts and crafts to suit all tastes"), when there is an "attractions" section in the body of the article where these places could be mentioned? The article appears to contain a number of copyright violations e.g.

There are probably several more. According to the site, the material is "© 2006. A Public - Private Partnership Programme between Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and Maks Publications & Media Services" Sean.hoyland - talk 02:24, 5 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

This article is a tourism brochure

edit

This article is a train wreck. Most of it suffers from major pov problems and reads like a tourist brochure. Many sections are directly lifted from web sites and other sources with prominent copyright notices. 24.148.71.65 (talk) 00:55, 26 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Ghanaian Asian, Ghanaian Europeans?

edit

I lived in Ghana for many, MANY years and have NEVER once heard the term Ghanaian Asian and Ghanaian European being used. By far, almost no European or Asian living in Ghana would tack on the "Ghanaian" part of their name. Now, so-called "half-cast" (i.e., those of mixed Ghanian and non-Ghanaian ancestry) may recognise their Asian or European roots, if applicable. But still, no one says Ghanaian European or Ghanaian Asian. I would suggest removing this term from Wikipedia because this term (and the ideology that goes with it) does not apply to people living in Ghana. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.134.10.20 (talk) 03:34, 21 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Source dispute

edit

Despite clearly stating my edits (see first revert and second revert with reasoning) that the Deutscher Wetterdienst is in German and the Meteo Climat source is French and that no English text exists in those sources, User:40bus (user contributions) continued to revert my edits with no explanation [1] [2] to claim that these sources are in English. Originally, User:40Bus made these changes without any explanation. It is misleading to readers to state that the sources for Deutscher Wetterdienst and Meteo Climat are in English when the only languages for Deutscher Wetterdienst and Meteo Climat are German and French respectively and stop changing it to unsourced/misleading citations.
