Gay History

edit

Came to this page to find out why Laguna is the gay capital of Orange County. I'd love to see an expert write about it's history and mention the cities huge gay community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.196.85.216 (talk) 10:27, 18 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

the culture section is a big advertisement. should be deleted.

one of the external links on the Laguna Beach, CA page is to a page called lagunatics.com. It is a 'blind' for a real estate rental company. Lots of incorrect info.

Better choice? LB Chamber of Commerce? http://www.lagunabeachinfo.com or the city's art community's page? http://www.lagunabeachcity.net

the community theatre that produces "Lagunatics" ™©,. is www.nosquare.org

the Festival of Arts/Pageant of the Masters is www.foa/pom.org

the bit about the television show appears opinionated and juvenile. could be rewritten.

The entire first section of this article looks as if it was written by a tourist bureau and has no business being a part of wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Celareon (talkcontribs) 05:38, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Inaccurate and misleading demographic information

edit

The median house price looks more like a mean at $2,000,000. The more accurate, and widely used median house price is somewhere along the lines of $930,000, which can be reached by looking at the assessed valuation of residential houses. Source: Laguna Beach FYE 06 comprehensive annual financial report. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 151.151.21.99 (talk) 20:51, 13 February 2007 (UTC).Reply

Laguna Beach has a high crime rate for its size as reported in local newspapers.

On current Laguna Beach Home prices ---

Assessed valuation is a very misleading way to estimate the median potential sale price of a home in Laguna Beach. Homes still affected by Proposition 13 limits are often assessed at 1/4 of sale value. At the present time the cheapest house for sale here is listed at $850,000 ( as of August 2007 ) The $2 million figure may be a bit high, but not by much. Whether these lofty prices will hold during the current softening of the market is anyone's guess.

The median price for a single-family home in Laguna Beach as of summer 2007 was about $1.6 million, according to DataQuick, a real estate information provider that publishes the figure monthly. Many homes in Laguna are small cottages and the price per square foot was an eye-popping $1,137 in August, DataQuick reported. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Solagdude (talkcontribs) 02:40, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup

edit

Why does this page need cleanup? It's good looking, and all the information is correct. I live in Laguna, and I can assure that all the information is completely accurate. I'm going to remove the cleanup template. -- ChunkyStyle (talk contribs) 01:25, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I removed the word "habitation". Don't need to say "habitation site of a civilization" - just "site of the civilization'. --JackBnimble10 (talk) 16:31, 22 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Changed "was a territory of" to "was settled by, since it describes peoples, not governmental entities (in the lede).--JackBNimble43 (talk) 15:42, 3 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Tidepools

edit

Why does this entire article on Laguna Beach not comment on its amazing tidepools? I'm sure that people would be interested to know about them. Just check out those tidepools near Seal Rock! Might be the best in the USA. Wakata —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.85.120.61 (talk) 01:37, 25 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Because the tidepools are now more or less devoid of life. 68.231.216.160 (talk) 21:18, 19 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sory to contradict, but that's not true. The local tide pools still have things living in them the last time I lookedLaguna greg (talk) 20:54, 16 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

"Regular" teenagers

edit

The media section of the article says that the show Laguna Beach "made regular teenagers Stephen Colletti, Kristin Cavallari, and Lauren Conrad into celebrities." I only saw maybe 20 minutes total of this show, but nobody on it seemed the slightest bit "regular" to me. They were all exceptionally wealthy. I'm not sure there's an argument to be made that the comment isn't NPOV but something feels very wrong about the people on that show being called regular teenagers.

Partisan Affiliation

edit

The partisan identification information is complete Bullshit. Anyone in Orange County knows this is one of the most liberal areas of South OC. These mentionings of voter registration are worthless as it only revels numbers on a district level which are heavily gerrymandered. The CD Laguna Beach is in is very conservative but this is hardly representative of the city. There is no way the PVI of plus whatever R is applicable to Laguna Beach and artist gay community. An example of editors blinding writing about politics without analysis. None of the information pertaining to the Republican representation matters in this article aside from who the actual representatives are. It is completely misleading to have the voter registration uncited as majority Republican. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wiki Mateo (talkcontribs) 08:54, 7 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to fix it? Tim D (talk) 03:59, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
True. WP:BOLD and remove any unsourced or questionable material! Law shoot! 04:05, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
What is Wikipedia's policy on the length a notification must stay before it is corrected? I've seen markings such as citation, dubious, or whatever stay on a page for months. I would gladly remove the voter registration comment.

Transportation

edit

There are only three roads in and out of Laguna Beach. Coast Highway (State Route 1) is a four lane highway that traverses the city from the north city limits to the south city limits along the westerly Pacific Ocean coast. Laguna Canyon Road (State Route 133) is a two lane highway that enters the city from the northeast and terminates at Coast Highway. The heavy influx of tourists and beach visitors during summer months makes driving very slow and difficult. During July and August the City operates a free bus shuttle system that runs along the two main thoroughfares.Xyphlus (talk) 17:30, 23 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Education

edit

The Laguna Culinary "Institute" is a restaurant and wine shop with an unaccredited cooking school in the back, where the owners give classes when they feel like it. This should not be listed here, so I'm removing it. Laguna greg (talk) 21:14, 4 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

File:LagunaBeachCA photo D Ramey Logan.JPG to appear as POTD soon

edit

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:LagunaBeachCA photo D Ramey Logan.JPG will be appearing as picture of the day on October 15, 2012. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2012-10-15. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :) Thanks! howcheng {chat} 06:09, 14 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

An aerial view of Laguna Beach, a seaside resort city and artist community located in southern Orange County, California, US. The region was originally known to the Spanish as "La Cañada de Las Lagunas" which means "The Canyon of the Small Lakes", in reference to two lakes found near the head of Laguna Canyon.Photo: D Ramey Logan

North and South Laguna

edit

I have noticed that a South Laguna section is for the most part stranded, and I have some wonderful photographs that I have done while flying the coast over the last few weeks to update the stub. Perhaps it is time to create a North and South section here, merge the South Laguna page and perhaps detail the names of the coves both north and south of main beach. --WPPilot 18:13, 19 January 2013 (UTC)chat

Thanks for adding your aerial photos, WPPilot. I agree with you that the South Laguna stub should be merged into this article. (I hadn't noticed it was out there by itself -- especially because the South Laguna, California link has always been a redirect to here.) A neighborhood section is typical for the well-developed (GA/FA) articles. So, during the next week, I'll write a neighborhoods section which would include North Laguna, Downtown, South Laguna, Three Arch Bay, Laguna Canyon, Top of the World, etc. The local names of the coves and beaches can be incorporated as something of sub-neighborhoods. More citations?

edit

Is it just me, or does this article need more citations? Especially the section on history. Surely we can do better? Beautiful photos here! 132.174.139.93 (talk) 21:39, 28 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Check Year

edit

"1993 Fire A fire in Laguna Beach in October 2013"...

I presume one of the years is incorrect.

Thanks for catching that. I made a typo when I wrote that. I've now fixed it to correctly read 1993. Bahooka (talk) 20:30, 10 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
