Should the name be changed?

edit

If Guaymí is an outdated term, should this article be renamed Ngöbe people? -Uyvsdi (talk) 21:29, 16 July 2012 (UTC)UyvsdiReply

Just found this year-and-a-half old comment. I'll query at WP Central America. -Uyvsdi (talk) 01:47, 3 December 2013 (UTC)UyvsdiReply

Proposing name change

edit

Okay, I would like to propose that this article be moved to Ngäbe people. -Uyvsdi (talk) 18:35, 6 December 2013 (UTC)UyvsdiReply

It's been over a week with no commentary, so I'll make the move. -Uyvsdi (talk) 20:35, 15 December 2013 (UTC)UyvsdiReply

How is the term "Guaymí" perceived socially?

edit

How is the term "Guaymí" perceived socially by the people themselves? Is it viewed as pejorative, or has it been "reclaimed" as some other terms have been (none come to mind right now)? Jimw338 (talk) 16:00, 28 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Guaimí is seen for what it is, a pejorative term. The people call themselves Ngäbe AteneaZ3 (talk) 05:42, 17 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Meaning of "guaymi"/"guaymiri" in Buglere?

edit

What is the meaning of "guaymi"/"guaymiri" in the Buglere language? Jimw338 (talk) 16:06, 28 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

The heteroglotonym guaimí, probably derives from the Buglé ngwamigda meaning indigenous or gwarare, gwa minta, meaning "like worms" a derogatory way to refer to the Ngäbe that passed into Spanish. AteneaZ3 (talk) 05:13, 17 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Image used in article shows people from different Indigenous Tribes

edit

The Image used in the article shows people from 2 different tribes in Panama, the Guna and the Ngäbe. This can be misleading. Juanr2099 (talk) 01:46, 13 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
