Talk:Slovakia men's national ice hockey team

Czechoslovakian breakup

edit

One area I'd really like to see covered in this article is why Slovakia didn't send a team to the 1993 world championships, why they had to start in the C pool, and why the Czech's inherited Czechoslovakia's spot in the A pool. Unfortunetly, I do not know the answer and I can't seem to find the info anywhere. It is perhaps also worth mentioning briefly in the Czech and Czechoslovakian national team pages. --Sarke 02:06, 18 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure either. All breakaway republics had to start over except for Russia and the Czechs. --   Earl Andrew - talk 02:30, 18 May 2005 (UTC)Reply
I found the info [1]. Here's a copy of the relevant text:
In the case of the former Czechoslovakia, the IIHF ruled that since its national team had always been made up mostly of Czech players, the Czech Republic would remain in the A pool of the World Championship. Slovakia protested, but to no avail and was placed in the C pool of the 1994 World Championship.
Now, should we mention this in all three articles, or what? --Sarke 06:43, 18 May 2005 (UTC)Reply
I've added the discussion to the article. I think the discussion of the Cold War's end and its effect on the IIHF should be discussed in the IIHF article. I will write some text. -- Mre5765 23:49, 21 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
I added the discussion of the impact of the cold war ending to the IIHF WC article and added a reference. -- Mre5765 01:07, 22 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
