Template talk:Mario franchise

I recently made an edit for this, but was told to discuss it here first. I added a section to the article listing other notable platformer series which have had some connection to the Mario franchise over the years, but are not just spin-off sub-series, e.g. Donkey Kong or Wario. Here's some clarification on why each series I listed was included, for if considering adding it again. What they each have in common (besides being platformers or series with a lot of platformers), is either an official Mario cameo has appeared in its series, or an official cameo of their game(s) have appeared in a Mario game.

1. The Banjo and Conker series were both mentioned for the obvious reason that they made their debuts in Diddy Kong Racing, as well as a number of more subtle Mario references littered throughout Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie in particular. It could almost be argued that they're sub-series of Mario (rights being eaten up by Microsoft aside, I mean in terms of their origins).

2. The Sonic series was mentioned because of the handful of Mario and Sonic crossovers, since they started 'getting along'.

3. Kirby, Legendary Starfy, Kid Icarus, Chibi-Robo, Splatoon, Metroid were all mentioned due to the combination of also being owned by Nintendo, and additionally all having had one or two Mario cameos littered throughout them (and/or vice versa).

4. Mega Man, R.O.B. and Skylanders were listed due to several Mario characters appearing in their games and/or vice versa, due to the amiibos. R.O.B. is perhaps more of a grey area as there's only one real 'platformer' in that (brief) series (Gyromite).

5. Battletoads is arguably the most tenuous one. A sort of cameo appeared in the form of the Battle T character in Mario Party 2 and 3. It could be debated whether this was intentional, but the fact the character did not appear in Mario Party 4 (around when Rare switched to Microsoft) and the character's green color do pretty strong imply it was an agreed nod to the games between Rare and Nintendo. Understandable if this is considered too vague to include.

I hope that makes sense of the mentions. Nineteneleven1 19:19, 6 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Main

edit

The section "Main" is a bit misleading. It's not even clear what "Main" means in this context. This is a list of game series which don't fit into the other genre categories. Sure, Super Mario and Mario Kart are undeniably "main" game series, and possibly even Mario Party. But Mario Artist, really? I am not sure what it has done to deserve being called a "main" game series. Kidburla (talk) 01:15, 27 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

New Template

edit

I added stuff to this template from other templates, but @Dissident93 has bloat concerns. Any opinions? RandNetter96 (Talk) (Contributions) 01:45, 7 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
