Economic problems have affected the team, especially inflation of the Rand, which meant that none of the 2005 team could afford to come back in 2009.[1]

The United Kingdom Maccabiah rugby union team, also referred to as the Great Britain Maccabiah rugby union team or Team GB, represents the United Kingdom at the Maccabiah Games, nicknamed the "Jewish Olympics".

They are organised by the Maccabi World Union, rather than national bodies. There is no single governing body for the UK in rugby, instead, there are three main different national administrations: England's Rugby Football Union, the Scottish Rugby Union, and the Welsh Rugby Union. In addition, there is the Irish Rugby Football Union which administers both Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.

Given that there are only quite small numbers of Scottish Jews and Welsh Jews, and even smaller numbers of Northern Irish Jews, the majority of their players are English, and they even compete more or less in England colours. However, Scottish and Welsh Jews are eligible and have played, as are Northern Irish Jews. In theory, Jews from Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man are eligible as well, but none have been chosen.
