  • Comment - the nominator is the only substantive author of the current target and moved it to its current title shortly after the article was created a couple of weeks ago so I'd say this qualifies for speedy deletion under WP:G7 or presumably WP:G6 (if it was created in error). Not a notable person. The only page linking to this redirect is the target of the redirect. I am not sure if any speedy delete criteria apply, so am starting this RfD instead. Archer1234 (talk) 20:35, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Delete functionally a one-article circular redirect; the article in question names but does not have any text discussing the person in question. Pointless. --Jayron32 13:07, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

More Eubot post-digestive matter. In this case I can't figure out what's going on here and what Eubot would create this. Would recommend that others look over User:Champion/Eubot list at various points, where I'm sure there's more stuff like this. Hog Farm Talk 19:29, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

More Eubot trash from 2008 - the bot noted the existence of Portinglês (version 2), which consists of old history, and decided that this was necessary. This isn't a logical search term, and what this was based on existed only for internal purposes, so this is useless. Hog Farm Talk 19:23, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: I moved the edit history of Portinglês (version 2) to Portinglês to get the edit history away from that odd title, considering the content was a {{R from merge}}. (With that being said, I was considering merging Portinglês (version 2) into this nomination, but since it would be for a different reason that the nominator's rationale, I'm holding off for now.) These were moved to the correctly spaced titles years before (in 2004 and 2013 respectively), and further history consists of fixing double redirects. I'm not sure why we still need them, so I thought I'd bring them over to RfD to discuss. Regards, SONIC678 18:48, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned in the target article, leaving the connection between the target article's subject and the redirect's subject unclear. However, this redirect is mentioned in some articles on Wikipedia, but none of these articles go to any extent to identify or defined the term of the redirect. The result of the discussion was move without redirect to Thomas Percy (died 1811). -- Tavix (talk) 01:00, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

History contains a duplicate article of Thomas Percy (bishop of Dromore). Article was redirected outright by Deb, rather than merged, so does not need to be kept for attribution. (The move to this title by Tassedethe came later.) I tend toward deletion; alternately, could be moved to Thomas Percy (translator), Thomas Percy (died 1811), or similar. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 05:28, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Title of an upcoming novel by the subject, not mentioned on target page. At minimum too soon; the subject is two out of the seventeen hits I get on the first page of a search. Rusalkii (talk) 06:49, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly also The Big Reveal: An Illustrated Manifesto of Drag., but that one is sufficiently specific to be unambiguous, though it should drop the period. Rusalkii (talk) 06:51, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Rusalkii, I realized that there was a period for The Big Reveal: An Illustrated Manifesto of Drag. The period is removed. If you think that The Big Reveal is a problem for searching, okay then. I just did this because there some articles that only include the first three words, but hey I am not complaining. — JuanGLP (talk) 13:42, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not mentioned at target article, Doom (film), Doom: Annihilation, or Doomguy. It's unclear what this redirect is meant to represent, and without mention, readers will not know why they were redirected to any target in addition to not finding the information they are looking for. The result of the discussion was speedy keep. Nominator withdrew upon encountering a keep vote, instead starting an article themselves so that the page is no longer a redirect. (non-admin closure)Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 20:38, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting deletion of the redirect since it is confusing for the film article's link to the book article to lead back to the film article. Per WP:REDLINK, there is substantial justification for having a standalone book article, and deleting the redirect to make visible a red link would help encourage creation of a book article. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 03:09, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Weak keep. Notwithstanding the nominator's comment essentially stating that the book's article doesn't exist, the redirect seems to be the equivalent of a {{R from working title}} since it is the title of the book. Steel1943 (talk) 07:04, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If it's not going to be a breeze here, I'm just going to withdraw. I was hoping to make it a red link to encourage article creation and eliminate the roundabout setup that is happening here. I've started a one-sentence stub so readers actually go somewhere other than the film article. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 13:54, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dominant language

edit

The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the discussion was keep. (non-admin closure) CycloneYoris talk! 00:43, 16 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I happened to come across this and was surprised... not the topic/redirect I expected at all... Dominant Language and Language dominance are two different things. While it can refer to imperialism, it is more often used as the dominant language in a person's mind or daily usage. I looked for a better target to redirect to, but could not find any; the topic does not seem to be given any attention. As it currently is, it doesn't make sense to keep it this way. 2600:8800:2C00:BC00:2DED:4919:9B94:F1AD (talk) 09:27, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep The current target explains several definitions of a "dominant language". If there were an article on the topic you refer to then it could be added there, but deleting redirects because they are ambiguous with something that isn't even mentioned anywhere isn't done here. * Pppery * it has begun... 19:23, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • From a quick browse, it appears that the terms "language dominance" and "dominant language" can refer either to an individual's psychological reality (which of the several languages the person speaks is the main one) or to a social fact (which language is the most widely spoken, or has higher prestige and institutional support). I can't see any treatment of either topic on Wikipedia (for the first one, there's minor mentions in Multilingualism and in First language, but neither is useful for readers who may be using this redirect). So I'd rather have both the redirect and the dab page deleted. – Uanfala (talk) 15:16, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've rewritten the dab page to reflect the two uses I've outlined above, so I don't have any particular concerns with keeping the redirect. It would still be a viable option to delete the dab page (along with all incoming redirects), but it seems like it reflects plausible reader searches, so I'd rather leave it be. – Uanfala (talk) 22:56, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
