Please be careful with your edits. By changing the style of some apostrophes you reformated some 'italic in apostrophes phrases' into bold phrases, I have fixed these. For some reason you changed some <div class="center" code to <div class="centr, which means nothing - also fixed. I have no idea why you removed some wikilinks which were unique within the article. If you wish to make any further edits, please explain them on the Talk page, and definitely don't use a script, if I see format changes as a result of your edits I will just undo them rather than try to accommodate your intentions. • many surnames have intrinsic meanings, but it is not at all the custom to link surnames within the body of the article in the manner that you linked it in that bio. One would only do so if there was a very specific reason in a particular case to link the surname, like perhaps if the person was the first of his name, in a context that explained its meaning or derivation. Please do have a look around, and have a think – I hope you would agree that linked names like George W. Bush, Steve Jobs, Michelle Branch, Oliver Stone (or on the formulation "Eight months into Bush's first term as president...") would look ridiculous. -- Ohc ^¡digame! 09:48, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

I have now fixed all the format changes. As I said, if you want anything else changed mention it in the Talk page, but don't do it - I am worried by the number of changes you make in one edit and the consequences they have. I will consider what you have said about the surname, but it is unusual, it does have a specific meaning and there are a couple of well-known people in the UK with similar names spelt slightly differently, so I believe people here would be interested. Date format

How come wiki hasn't standardized on dmy? I met an ex mayor from the US recently who told me the US has gone metric unofficially. If US car manufacturer's want cheap bolts from overseas they buy metric. Drug dealers find grams convenient. So even the US can change. Aaabbb11 (talk) 09:09, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

• The real world is a mix of imperial and metric measurements, and people being conservative, changes come slow. Televisions, iPads, computer disk drives are measured in inches; aircraft cruse at 33,000 feet; cargo is measured in cubic feet; horses are measured in hands. Endianness is a hotly debated topic here in Wikipedia because many US editors are more familiar with the mdy format and can't or don't want to cope with dmy dates. Only there are sentiments from others who are unaccustomed to mdy dates and can't or don't want to cope with mdy dates, so there is an artificial line in the sand that keeps the peace between WP editor factions. Edits to Southport

Hi,

Your recent edit to Southport, amongst other things, changed "color" in CSS tags to "colour", breaking the CSS formatting. I've now reverted this, but I think you should have spotted that breakage before saving the change. In any case, if you can it's probably worth fixing the script to not make such changes within CSS tags.

I was editing an article about a letter, Ayin, and I noticed that your script doesn't pick up that one. I was wondering if that should fall under "everyday words" mentioned by WP:OVERLINK? I'm not on the whole bothered by it being linked in the Ayin article because it does seem to have relevance and some value.   • Thanks for your opinion, Ohconfucius. I guess I was looking it from a different perspective. I was thinking that since "Ayin" itself is a "letter of the Semitic abjads", and [[Semitic abjads]] is already linked, it might be somewhat redundant to link the term "letter" as well. I think [[Semitic abjads]] is the most specific item to be linked. Moreover, since the symbol for Ayin varies among different alphabetic systems (Hebrew ע, Syriac ܥ, Arabic ع, etc.), and all of those systems are already linked in the same sentence, that's another reason why I considered the link for "letter" redundant and overtly general.
  • I just realized that I was a bit unclear with my last post, but that's what I meant by referring to language-related articles: "letter" is always an overtly general term, and every letter belongs to some way more specific alphabetical system that should be linked instead. When to add publisher or not

Hi, I've seen you recently made some edits to articles I have worked on, e.g. Yazoo (band), where among the edits you have removed the publishers from various sources. Please understand I am not complaining or trying to pick a fight, I'd just like some guidance as to when to include publishers or not. I'm looking at Help:Citation Style 1#Work and publisher and it says not to include the publisher when it is virtually identical to the work or journal name, which is fair enough, but has there been some consensus on this subject? Migration to TemplateScript

Hi Ohconfucius. I migrated test/MOSNUM dates.js and test/MOSNUM utils.js to TemplateScript, along with the changes we discussed in March. They're up-to-date with your changes to the equivalent script/ pages, and I added some unit tests for the underlying custom regex code. Help:CS1 errors#bad date parameters

Greetings! I was wondering if you could help me with an issue related to the Help:CS1 errors#bad date parameters? At the page, one of the items in the list goes:

"...errors in |date= caused by errors in |year=, |month=, or |day=..."

It seems, however, that |day= isn't working, and it results into a following error message:

Unknown parameter |day= ignored (help)

The reason why I am willing to use the {{Citation | ... | year =... | month =(in letters)... | day =...}} instead of {{Citation | date= YYYY-MM-DD}} format, is that the latter doesn't fully work with the {{sfn}} references. You see, in the newspapers and journals, the dates follow the form YYYY-MM-DD, but the {{sfn}} references seem to work only when the it's referring to {{para|year}} (beside the author's last name, of course). The only non-functioning part seems to be {{para|day}}, which leaves an ugly error message at the end of the reference. Do you think this could be fixed? Cheers! MOSNUM dates.js conflict with Regex menu framework gadget

Hi.

There is a bit of a problem I was hoping you could help me with. I have the Regex menu framework gadget enabled. It adds a "Scripts" heading to my lefthand sidebar and adds a "Custom regex" right underneath it. (That's what I want.)

Now, every time this Javascript command is executed:

...another "Scripts" heading with another "Custome regex" entry is added. Right after it, a "TemplateScript" heading with a "Regex editor" entry is added.

Can you also reproduce this? Or is the problem on my side only? (Of course, I spent one hour and 13 minutes disabling and re-enabling each of my gadgets and imported scripts. I'd be surprised if the problem is on my side.)

Hi Ohconfucius. The regex menu framework is obsolete and unmaintained, so it hasn't been updated to reflect modern usage. The duplicate menus happen because it assumes it's only loaded once, which is no longer true with gadgets and script frameworks.

TemplateScript is the modern successor to the regex menu framework. It has the same features, but also benefits from years of further improvements and is actively maintained. Here's a quick comparison of the features you use:

The change [6] has converted hundreds of date entries to dmy, instead of converting the few dmy to y-m-d format.

The change [7] has dumped references for data, instead of turning them into real references.

@Guidod: I notice that you have reverted all of my changes to the article. Kindly note that text including embedded external links in the form of "The EV Charger Maps website is a volunteer run effort coordinated by EV Charger News that catalogs EV charging station information across the U.S. It contains information targeted for real-world use by electric vehicle owners" is considered WP:LINKSPAM. You need to refer to WP:CITE if you wish to create references in a "wiki-compliant" manner (cites need to be be independent, third party reliable sources). Also, parameters such as "|date=2009-10" are ambiguous (although we do not use ISO 8601) and are not compliant with our guidelines on dates and numbers, and it is entirely appropriate to attempt to correct. I'm currently consumed with other semi-automated clean-up editing, and I was hoping to find a "dates clean-up specialist" to whom I could toss this little project (i.e. OC). Either of you fellas interested? I'm eventually going to need to similar MDY runs on 220 Canadians and DMY runs on 520+ Australians and Brits. Tony, you'll be happy to know I'm already using AWB to reduce the low-value links in these articles per WP:OVERLINK. It's a process. I manage to combine both in this way that hopefully diminishes the risk of burnout. Hi Ohconfucious, I've been using one of your scripts for months now, but Bagumba has reverted me today here, and told me that he is going to revert all script edits here. I was wondering if you could either tweak the script or explain why the script is right and the CS1 text is wrong? 2015 Ma–Xi meeting

I think the Wikidata item for 2015 Ma–Xi meeting illustrates very well the multiple names used for this historic interaction. The Indonesian WP is the only project to opt for the English WP title order, while Cantonese and Wu Chinese WPs call it the Xi–Ma meeting. I created the article at Ma–Xi out of a desire to alphabetize the names, but have come to question my decision because other WPs are not quite following suit. I originally placed all possible names in the lead, which was refactored to the infobox. I added "Meeting of Cross-Strait leaders" to that infobox when I saw that the Chinese WP article had been moved to that title. If the choice is not to use {{Infobox Chinese}} how do we neutrally mention the other names in use for this topic? Do we move it to "2015 meeting of Cross-Strait leaders" to follow zh.WP's lead? I considered making a RFC or requested move, but figured I may as well ask you first. Vycl1994 (talk) 22:48, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

• Thanks for your message. My feeling when I removed the box with all the names is that there is no real bearing on what it's known as is other languages to what it's known as in English. I don't think there is any global consensus on the English name anyway, and for an event that doesn't have an official name, unlike "Xi Jinping", it's quite natural for there to be many variants as to the name. I saw no mention in the article itself about the name order or any such, but if you feel any particular name is significant, perhaps we should think about adding sourced paragraphs to the effect to attest to their importance?
