Decommissioning

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Decommissioning is a general term for a formal process to remove something from an active status, and may refer to:

Infrastructure

[edit]
  • Decommissioned offshore of oilfield facilities after production has stopped, reached uneconomical levels or infrastructure is no longer maintainable or safe
  • Decommissioned highway of portions no longer part of the road network due to disuse or degradation
  • Greenfield status of former industrial sites such as brownfield no longer in use or mining sites after closure
  • Nuclear decommissioning after a reactor has been retired due to an accident or become inefficient and no longer meets power output demand (fuel rods eventually do get spent)
