The Democratic Alternation Pole (Arabic: قطب التناوب الديمقراطي, romanizedqiṭb at-tanāwwub ad-dīmuqrāṭi, French: Pôle de l'Alternance Démocratique) is a Mauritanian political coalition between Sawab and the legally unrecognized Refoundation for a Global Action parties founded on 31 May 2018 ahead of the 2018 parliamentary and 2019 presidential elections.

History

[edit]

The alliance was founded on 31 May 2018 as a pragmatic alliance between the Ba'athist Sawab and the Initiative for the Resurgence of the Abolitionist Movement (IRA) led by anti-slavery and Haratine interests activist Biram Dah Abeid, who saw his Refoundation for a Global Action (RAG) party legally unrecognized by the Ministry of Interior, thus not being allowed to contest elections on its own.[1][2]
