Jacob Peterson (born 19 July 1999) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player for Rögle BK of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). Peterson was drafted in the fifth round, 132nd overall, by the Dallas Stars in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

Playing career

[edit]

Peterson made his SHL debut playing for Frölunda HC in 2017, playing in nine games in the 2017–18 season.[1]

In his fourth year with Frölunda HC in 2019–20, Peterson played his first full season in the SHL, recording career bests with five goals and 16 points through 43 games before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. On 1 April 2020, Peterson opted to leave Frölunda HC, agreeing to a two-year contract with fellow SHL club, Färjestad BK.[2]

On 28 April 2021, Peterson was signed by draft club, the Dallas Stars, to a two-year, entry-level contract.[3]

During the 2022–23 season at the NHL trade deadline, on 3 March 2023, the Stars traded Peterson to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Scott Reedy.[4] In June 2023, he signed re-signed with the Sharks on a one-year contract.[5]

Following two seasons within the Sharks organization, Peterson as a pending restricted free agent was not tendered a qualifying to be retained by the Sharks. As a free agent, Peterson returned to his native Sweden, signing an optional three-year contract with Rögle BK of the SHL, on 14 July 2024.[6]
