Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Tasks

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This page is for AWB'ers who can't find anything to put it to use on, or who would like to help others with this powerful tool.

Below are tasks for which a page-autoloader with various capabilities would be especially useful. That is, the people posting these tasks need the help of AWB'ers! If you have AWB, please lend a hand. Note that Link Ninja may also be useful for completing the tasks on this list (see WP:OTS#Tabs and tabbing).

Please note that Wikipedia:Bot requests sometimes has one-time tasks which can be done easily using AWB.

Change format of japanese district statistics (in running text)

In subcategories of Category:Districts of Japan, there are very many stub articles which have content of the same form for the population density and area. For example, Katsuura District, Tokushima says the district has an estimated [[population density|density]] of 6,326 and a density of 35.3 persons per km². The total area is 179.46 km². At the least, the ² character should be replaced by 2. Also, the phrase "density of 6,325" is better as {{convert|6,325|PD/km2}} (giving "6,325 inhabitants per square kilometre (16,380/sq mi)") and the area as {{convert|179.46|km2|abbr=on}} (giving "179.46 km2 (69.29 sq mi)"). (It appears {{convert}} understands thousands separators so there's no need to remove them.)

The same form may be found in other populated places in Japan, not just districts. 62.165.198.149 (talk) 14:29, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Doing... RealFakeKimT 18:00, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if AWB can do the {{convert}} part because the number is variable, if someone does they can do that part. I'm doing a general clean up of all the pages which gets the ² to 2. RealFakeKimT 18:15, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Partly done RealFakeKimT 19:50, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed Abuta District, Hokkaido. Is that what's required? Replacements are (density\]* *of *)([\d,.]*\d) persons per km(2|2|²)$1{{convert|$2|PD/km2}} and (area\]* *is *)([\d,.]*\d)( *| )km(2|2|²)$1{{convert|$2|km2|abbr=on}}. Certes (talk) 22:49, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'll leave this for now, but this search generates a list: deepcat:"Districts of Japan" insource:/density\]* of [0-9]/. Certes (talk) 21:13, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging Uncategorized articles with the templates

Hello,

I don't know if it has been already requested by somebody else before, but I would ask you if it's possible to add the {{uncategorized}} to all pages that need that. I've explained that in this discussion. As you can see it, there's an possibility to have an bare database to all articles needing an tagging with the template. I haven't modification rights with AWB in English WP.

Thanks for your answer. --Anas1712 (talk) 15:49, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Anas1712: Hi there! I'm busy this weekend, but remind me on Monday and I'll file a bot request for this. GoingBatty (talk) 12:54, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@GoingBatty: Sorry, I've forgotten about yesterday. Can you still do it now? --Anas1712 (talk) 20:58, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Anas1712: BRFA filed. GoingBatty (talk) 22:37, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Anas1712: Y Done twice. GoingBatty (talk) 13:22, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I've seen that in the Category and in articles. --Anas1712 (talk) 13:49, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Revert undiscussed page moves: India–Foo relations

This task requires the sysop bit. Please revert recent page moves in Special:Contributions/Utkarsh555, moving Foo– India relations or India– Foo relations back to the original title (Foo–India relations or India–Foo relations, whichever puts the nations in alphabetical order) as I did for Pakistan. Note removal of space after the en dash. For a bonus point, fix the lead (example; may require knowledge of local languages) and incoming links (or just leave them to the bot). Congo requires special treatment as it's been moved twice; there may be other oddities. Edited for clarity: Certes (talk) 16:07, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Move log, for reference. Primefac (talk) 16:03, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The work which could be automated is Done; thanks to Aquintero82. I've requested a fix for Bangladesh, and queried Congo. Certes (talk) 11:49, 30 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Poultry taskforce

WikiProject Poultry was taken under the wing of WikiProject Birds and is now Poultry task force. In the process, Chicdat redirected {{WikiProject Poultry}} to {{WikiProject Birds}}. This resulted in two main problems. First, many PTF articles now have two WP Bird templates on their talk page. Second, all the parameters such as image requests from the original WP Poultry template are now ignored/lost.

I realize that repopulating Category:Wikipedia requested images of poultry ( 1 ) as opposed to Category:Wikipedia requested images of birds ( 4,723 ) may need some template work that it a little beyond me, but maybe someone can take a look at that as well. Also the quality cats such as Category:C-Class Poultry articles have also been depopulated.

Basically though, i would like a bot to check all talk pages that use {{WikiProject Poultry}} to check for an instance of {{WikiProject Birds}}. If so they need to enable |Poultry task force=yes in the latter. If the poultry template had either |needs-image=yes or |needs-photo=yes then these need to be imported into the birds template.

Is this something feasible? --awkwafaba (📥) 15:50, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

My advice would be to undo the redirect-creation and ask Trialpears to do a proper conversion/replacement with their bot. Primefac (talk) 17:13, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can definitely do this with my bot, but query to Primefac and Izno who closed the last discussion: Should this go through a TfD first? The task description of PearBOT 4 explicitly says Merging WikiProject banners after consensus at TfD which makes me feel a bit uneasy doing it without a TfD or BAG confirmation. --Trialpears (talk) 17:33, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Skimming bot request archives seems to indicate that TFD has never really been necessary for replacement of WikiProject banners. I'm not totally sure why PearBOT has that restriction... Izno (talk) 17:38, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You asked for it that way, we granted it (likely not thinking about these situations). The template in question has a clear consensus for removal/replacement, so I see zero reason to force a WikiProject to go through a TFD for such a small matter. I will leave a note at the task indicating the change in scope. Primefac (talk) 01:11, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Great! I simply didn't think about this scenario when making the request. I'll have a look at it. If it isn't done within a week please feel free to ping me a reminder. --Trialpears (talk) 07:22, 7 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A list of articles to add a recreated category to

Following the discussion here we have a list of articles to populate with a category that should be undelete. It was suggested AWB would be helpful here? (Note: the category has not been undeleted yet, so maybe a passing admin here could do so to get us started?). Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 11:51, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just to clarify for Piotrus. Could someone please re-add the category mentioned in the link, using the list of articles provided. Thanks - X201 (talk) 12:00, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Crawling WikiProject Software & WikiProject VideoGames preforming OS sorting tasks

I hope AWB is capable of this, I would like to see software related pages have consistent operating system lists, as right now its pretty all over the place. While browsing, I found infobox sorts such as

Celeste

Linux macOS Microsoft Windows Nintendo Switch PlayStation 4 Xbox One Stadia

Hollow Knight

Microsoft Windows macOS Linux Nintendo Switch PlayStation 4 Xbox One

Shovel Knight

Amazon Fire TV Microsoft Windows Nintendo 3DS Nintendo Switch OS X Linux PlayStation 3 PlayStation 4 PlayStation Vita Wii U Xbox One

I can identify a few tasks to be done

 • Ensure all OS's are alphabetically sorted
 • Change OS X -> MacOS (Save for the OS X pages)
 • Change Windows -> Microsoft Windows

I hope this is possible, let me know if you have any issues! Scaledish! Talkish? Statish. 16:07, 28 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
