Qualifying

[edit]

A qualifying report is needed. Can't add it myself as I didn't see the qualifying. Mjroots (talk) 11:30, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Timo Glock crash image

[edit]

I have in possession a picture of Glock's crash. Is it okay if I can upload it?

Sure. The page is lacking pictures. Apterygial (talk) 10:02, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Importance

[edit]

I've dropped the page to mid importance (see here), to conform with the Belgian one. Apterygial (talk) 09:55, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Autosport book

[edit]

Could someone who has the Autosport book change the references for the standings after the race? Thanks, Darth Newdar (talk) 17:33, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

McLaren personnel quotations

[edit]

Here are the all the quotations I can find relating to the GP from AUTOCOURSE and the relevant week's Autosport:

AUTOCOURSE
  • 'The safety car was going so slowly that I had time to look at the giant video monitors, and I saw Heikki and at least one of the Ferraris in the pits. I asked over the radio whether the guys were sure I shouldn't have pitted, but they told me, "We're comfortable. We know that they will be very, very heavy and they'll be in a bit of traffic, so we should be able to pull out a gap."' Lewis Hamilton (p. 186)
  • 'We had quite a lot of fuel in Lewis's car, and it was more than enough to let him cover a few safety-car laps and then pull out a lead, but the safety car stayed out three or four laps longer than we anticipated. With the benefit of hindsight, maybe we should have brought him in, but that's not what our strategists told us.' Ron Dennis (p. 186)
  • 'I would definitely have preferred an easy, comfortable afternoon out in front, but it didn't work that way. We all make- we all have decisions and opinions on certain things, and for sure we will learn from this one and move on to the next race.' Lewis Hamilton (p. 186)
  • 'We were also affected by a number of contributing factors that we couldn't have foreseen when we made the call. Firstly, the safety car stayed out for longer than we had anticipated, which meant the number of laps available for Lewis to pull out an advantage was reduced. Secondly, more cars pitted than we expected - this meant there was less traffic between Lewis and Felipe after the safety car came in. Finally, we felt Lewis would have an advantage running on low fuel with used tyres; in fact, the track evolution shifted to give greater benefit to cars fuelled heavily. That made his job harder.' Martin Whitmarsh (p. 189)
  • 'We feel we made the right decisions based on the tough choices available to us. Don't forget, too, that it was less clear cut for Lewis because we had fuelled him longer than the other cars at his first pit stop. We had a bigger fuel window than the other teams, who were much closer to their second pit stop when the safety car was deployed. Therefore, it was a much easier call for them than it was for us. And I'm sure the decision for Ferrari was far more straightforward; they probably weren't going to beat us. And if the tables had been turned; we'd doubtless have faced criticism if Massa had stayed out, jumped us and then capitalised on his advantage with a late splash-and-dash to the finish.' Martin Whitmarsh (p. 189)
Autosport (these will need to be sourced more precisely if they are incorporated into the article)
  • 'The car's now so well-balanced and responsive that it just feels fantastic to drive - you can always trust it and get something more out of it.' Lewis Hamilton (p. 10)
  • 'He [Hamilton] did a fantastic race - there is no question about it. It was the first stint that was just blistering, and we were comfortably quicker throughout the whole race.' Ron Dennis (p. 10)
  • 'With hindsight we probably wouldn't have done it that way. But the thinking was that the safety car wasn't going to be out for as long as it was. The Toyota was behind the barriers and we thought the safety car was about to come in the lap after the pit lane was opened. We felt Lewis had enough pace and enough fuel to build up enough of a lead to be able to stay out and extend his lead sufficiently to stay in front. As it was, there was debris to clear and it stayed out for longer. Which gave Lewis rather too much to do.' Ron Dennis (pp. 35-36)
  • 'They told me that [he had eight laps in which to make up 23 seconds after the SC came in] on the radio, and I kind of knew it was impossible, so I just nailed it as hard as I could.' Lewis Hamilton (p. 36)
  • 'At that point [passing Massa] I thought I'd taken the lead. I didn't realise this guy [Piquet] was there too.' Lewis Hamilton (p. 36)

I hope this helps!--Diniz(talk) 17:59, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've used the top one. Thanks very much for this, Diniz! Darth Newdar (talk) 08:17, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
