Turrets

[edit]

These turrets were less well-armored than those of its rivals, the British (King George V) and French (Richelieu) designs.[1] erased This statment is only applicable to (Richelieu) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thoddyx (talkcontribs) 18:38, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"SK" - meaning

[edit]

SK stands for "Schnelladekanone" (quick loading gun), as far as I know.78.34.101.37 (talk) 14:46, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I second that. I also found a reference for that in the original German version of the Book "Battleships and Battle Cruisers 1905 to 1970" from Siegfried Breyer. ("Schlachtschiffe und Schlachtkreuzer 1905 - 1970" K. Müller Vlg., Erlangen (1993), page 14: abbreviations) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kilminster (talkcontribs) 07:30, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

SK - Prior to 1920, this was for deck guns and meant Schnelladekanone or Schnellfeurkanone. "Fast Firing Cannon," equivalent to QF or RF. After that date, the meaning was changed to Schiffskanone or "Ship Cannon." Usually followed by the year in which it was designed. For example, a gun with the designation SK C/34 would mean that the weapon was a naval cannon designed in 1934. This designation system was used for most guns designed between 1920 and 1940.

Therefore, this gun should be Schiffskanone.

Questionable statistics

[edit]

The infobox lists the traverse and min/max elevation for the gun. Since this varies depending on how the gun was mounted, it would be more logical to have all of the facts for every different type of mounting, or none of them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.187.148.35 (talk) 17:44, 2 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

according description the gun is the naval gun so data for coastal gun has been deleted/moved to the costal gun section — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thoddyx (talkcontribs) 20:04, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

photo

[edit]

photo from battery Vara is not the SK 38 C34 naval gun but the SK 38 C34 Siegfriedkanone it should be replaced by a better fitting one — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thoddyx (talkcontribs) 15:39, 26 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Inexact reference to rate of fire

[edit]

Rate of fire under battle conditions was not 1 round/minute/gun. Initial shots were done to assess range to the enemy and to warm up the guns. Rapid fire at maximum was ordered after salvo 4 against the Hood. Thus only salvos 5 (8 shots)and 6 (8 shots) were fired at maximum rate of fire. Time between salvos 5 and 6 was about 22-23 seconds. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.114.110.74 (talk) 07:13, 7 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
