Bolt's split time

[edit]

It does not make sense to reference a runner who ran a different distance, and taking 60 meters out of that distance they ran and stating "it was this fast". Conditions are different for every race, obviously the last 60 meters of someone running the 100 meter dash would be faster than just running 60 meters. While this wasn't the claim that was made, it should point out the error in doing such comparisons. 68.13.132.27 (talk) 02:31, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"it should point out the error in doing such comparisons". Actually, it does not. Obviously the time over last 60 meters of a longer race cannot be compared to a regular 60 meters race. But that is not a valid reason at all to argue that the first 60 metres can't be compared as well. In a sport like swimming, split times can even count as world record. However, a reason that the a split time in an outdoor race shouldn't be compared to an indoor time is the possibility of a tail wind, and other weather circumstances. Bolt did have a tail wind, so the information should be left out. Gap9551 (talk) 21:29, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
