Future disambiguaqation

[edit]

The article associated with this talk page redirects to Yemeni Congregation for Reform as of 22:25, 31 January 2011 (UTC).

Since "Al-Islah" ("the Reform") seems to be used by many organisations as a key part of their name, the article associated with this talk page should at some time in the future become a disambiguation page. See Wikipedia:Template_messages/General#Disambiguation_and_redirection for hints on disambiguation templates. Boud (talk) 22:25, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Al-Islah is now the wikipedia main article name for the Yemeni political party Yemeni Congregration for Reform. See the discussion below. Depending on future usage in English, disambiguation can be done in the future when necessary, e.g. this could become Al-Islah (Yemen). Boud (talk) 21:08, 16 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

merge any new info from Al-Islah into this article (Yemeni Congregation for Reform)

[edit]

Given the common aspects, the lack of much info on a would-be second "al-islah" political party in Yemen, and the fact that the Yemeni Congregation for Reform wikipedia entry presently lists http://www.al-islah.net as the website for the party, it seems to me extremely likely that Al-Islah is the same party, i.e. it's not just an islamist party, it's an islamist/tribal/salafist party.

Any objections to the merge/redirect? Boud (talk) 01:09, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done. The only Al-Islah party that got seats in the Yemeni parliamentary election, 2003 was YCR. IMHO it's overwhelmingly obvious that "the Islamist Al-Islah" really refers to the Islamist/tribal-confederacy/Salafist Yemeni Congregation for Reform of which a senior member has stopped wearing her niqāb for 6 years and recommends that other women do the same. Boud (talk) 22:19, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In this edit: [1], my redirect was reverted with the comment a discussion is not 1 person.
i agree that a discussion is not 1 person. So let's see if anyone (including the person making the revert - hi Lihaas :) has any arguments to suggest that there exists an "Al-Islah" Islamist political party in Yemen that is not the same party as the Islamist/tribal/Salafist Yemeni Congregation for Reform party with a senior member who advocates not wearing the niqāb. A single sentence in an Al Jazeera article referring to a political party by this name seems a very weak piece of evidence to claim that the party Al-Islah of-that-one-article exists independently of the YCR that is also called Al-Islah. Boud (talk) 20:48, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
the disamb. on the top already says there are 2 parties.
wait, ill get an arabic speaker to break the tie.Lihaas (talk) 11:55, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I speak Arabic. In the website it states that they are "التجمع اليمني للإصلاح", which means Yemeni Congregation for Reform. so yes, they are the SAME people. -- The Egyptian Liberal (talk) 12:04, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We have had Al-Islah persisting as a hypothetical identical twin of the Yemeni Congregation for Reform for 5 days. IMHO that's enough for any objections against the merge to be stated. If someone later disagrees with The Egyptian Liberal and discovers that there are two well-known Yemeni Al-Islah parties of which Karman is active in both, then a disambig operation should be implemented. Boud (talk) 22:01, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
merge yes, but the other way. The actual names used, not the english translations. see Bharatiya Janata Party, Ata-Zhurt, etc.Lihaas (talk) 17:46, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You're right: "Al-Islah" is clearly an abbreviated name of a party which is commonly used in its native (transliterated) form in international newsmedia, so it falls in between exception 2. of Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(political_parties) and exception 3., which is when the acronym is widely used in international media. Done. Boud (talk) 20:56, 16 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone add the logo of the Yemeni Islah Party? --Danrolo 19:30, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
