Wrong attribution of name

[edit]

The city was named after Attalus II Philadelphus, by his brother, Eumenes II, of the Attalid dynasty. The epithet "Φιλάδελφος", from φιλέω (to love) and ἀδελφός (brother) signifies "he who loves his brother"; nothing else. An apt name for this city. Over the years, the current mistranslation has been institutionalized, and few would dare question the silly received mantra, as here. The etymological corruption has established itself in all dictionaries. Cuzkatzimhut (talk) 20:57, 18 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Name and linking

[edit]

I support that the alternate name for this town Philadelphia is linked in this article. Basic. -Inowen (NLFTE) 05:52, 27 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dangling ref

[edit]

I have located a dangling ref and hidden it, replacing it with a citation needed tag. This has been done because we have a reference pointing to a source that is not recorded in the article. Please feel free to contact me if you need assistance fixing this. - Aussie Article Writer (talk) 00:56, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
