Importance

[edit]

The Ball-bearing Run was important because Britain had bought-up the entire export stock of Swedish ball-bearings to prevent Germany buying them, and these ball-bearings had to be seen to be being delivered, however small the quantities. Otherwise Germany could have made a diplomatic protest to Sweden about the ball-bearings not being delivered to Britain, and so were still available, and that these ball-bearings should therefore be sold to Germany instead.

The ball-bearings were only carried when a passenger was not available, usually a passenger was flown out to Sweden, and if no passenger was available for the return flight then ball-bearings were carried instead. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.148.8.216 (talk) 08:54, 10 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
