"Batbelt" redirect here?

[edit]

I was just wondering if people think "Batbelt" should redirect here, instead of "Batsuit" —Preceding unsigned comment added by SamisBond (talkcontribs) 19:05, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Error?

[edit]

" For example, in the Batman movie of 1966, Batman and The Joker have a surf competition in full costume. Batman is attacked by a shark while surfing so he pulls a can of shark repellent from the utility belt. " This is completely innacurate and illrevelent to the article. Not only was their no surf compitetion in teh 1966 Batman movie, but the shark repellent did not come from his utility belt. (It was in a container in the hellicopter flying overhead)— Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.32.76.140 (talkcontribs) 18:39, October 22, 2005

Duly noted. Ace Class Shadow; My talk. 20:10, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So, er... anyone going to change it?Optimus Sledge 18:57, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The page, so far

[edit]

I know this probably a stupid comment to make, but I just wanted to say that I'm really linking how this article is going. Good linking, sectioning, description. No problems or disagreements. I've honestly never had this kind fun working on a article with someone. Ace Class Shadow; My talk. 20:10, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

History

[edit]

I think it's a good idea to add a history section it the article.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Tgunn2 (talkcontribs) 20:08, October 25, 2006

Hmm. Well, we already kind of have that in the intro. And there isn't really much history to it, beyond the changes in appearance. Ace Class Shadow; My talk. 20:20, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Still, you make a good point. I sectioned off what was already written. Now, I think we just need a image of the current comics belt (with pouches) and maybe a few better shots of the other media builds. (Begins and Forever, specifically.) Ace Class Shadow; My talk. 20:27, 25 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why is there no section on the TV show's (i.e. Adam West) utility belt, which initially had its pouches simulated by kitchen sponges? Darr247 (talk) 05:54, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Other belts

[edit]

Why not show the other belts in the dc universe? They are several superheroes in the dc universe who use utility belt. Why not turning Batman's utility belt to Utility belts(DC Comics)?

Maybe, Utility belt (comics)

Tgunn2 23:34, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Uh...first off, no. Guys, are you high? We're not turning this article into a collection of utility belts in comics. This article is for [[Batman]'s belt. Get your own! (Slightly kidding.)
If you want to make an article about utility belts in general, I'd start at utility belt, which is currently just a redirect. Ace Class Shadow; My talk. 00:06, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Technically, police officers and carpenters have utility belts too, but that's probably splitting hairs. Evernut 16:55, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Still, what about other belts? 90s animated series Batman had a unique belt, completely metal and having no visible material other than the openable compartments themselves. I loved that belt, that belt was money.

So that'd be a Batman utility belt, and therefore eligible to put in this article. Optimus Sledge 10:09, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why was "first aid kit" deleted from the list?

[edit]

I saw on the history that someone had added "first aid kit" to the list of items, but then someone else deleted it. Why? I've put it back on with no less than three sources that say he has or at least did have one, so hopefully this time it'll stay on there in the name of accuracy. It's not like I and whoever it was who put it there the first time just pulled it out of our rears. Evernut 18:06, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Batman had a flare.

[edit]

In the Justice Leagure series where Batman goes to Egypt, where he went into a pyramid, he had to fight a shadow which he used a red emergency flare. Can we cite something from the t.v. series? Also, in various epidoes of the 1990s cartoons, Batman had a binocular. Neal (talk) 19:06, 14 March 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Probably nitpicky

[edit]

Should this article be separated into the films, comics, and cartoon iterations of the utility belt? It might be a little easier to read and whatnot. Just saying.Lorddragyn (talk) 12:53, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

References...

[edit]

After wading through these a few things have become evident:

  1. A lot of them existed in part to quote, most times in full, the text of the linked web page. This amounts to a copyright violation. It's also information that isn't appropriate to the article n most cases. The verbiage has been purged at this point.
  2. A number of the refs were pointing at image files, just image files. The sites hosting them have anti-leaching redirects in place, so the circumvention of Wikipedia's NFC policies amounted to nothing.
  3. What's left... really push the definition of "reference". All the "Batman-News", which were massively broken, seem to be for is to get a picture of the bat-toy linked to the article. And "The Great Batman Equipment Archive" and the Angelfire site are questionable, at best, as reliable sources.

Is there anything to replace these with, or are we going to wind up having the "list" portion of the article become reference free?

bat items

[edit]

i do belive that the article should keep with the theme by having all items in the belt have bat in the name. i.e lock pick should become bat pick , rebreather should become batbreather etc.

  • Nothing in comics other then jokes says every weapon is starts with "Bat" The only weapon known to start with bat are the Batarangs. Also continuing on the subject of Bat-related weaponry, the "Batlasso" isn't a Lasso, they are bolas.74.70.144.120 (talk) 13:30, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

I know that Batman is notable, but that doesn't mean his belt is notable in it's own right, independently of him as a character. Why shouldn't this article be merged with the Batman article? Richard75 (talk) 22:35, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not suggesting that Batman's utility belt is or is not notable, but IMO any bat-merge or bat-deletion should also bat-involve Batarang and any other bat-items that are bat-included in the bat-ulility-belt. --Guy Macon (talk) 23:09, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Inappropriate closure of AfD

[edit]

The highly contentious AfD was closed by a non-admin in violation of AfD policy. I think a resisting (or at the very least, a DRV) might be in order, aiming ideally for a relist, since alternative solutions to the deadlock with some potential were being explored. Snow (talk) 21:27, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The closing editor has kindly reversed the closure. Snow (talk) 10:06, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Moving forward, then

[edit]

Well, if the page is going to remain then we might as well clean it up some. Though I was a tentative proponent in the AfD, I'd like to table the notion of generalizing the page until after we know exactly how much material we have for the Batman version alone of the belt alone. At present, virtually every source cited on this page are unacceptably far bellow Wikipedia's standards. Even putting the sourcing aside, large portions of the page could still use some some editing for format, tone, and and conciseness. All of that being said, I'll put this up on the recovery listings and hope someone can supply us with new links enough to work with before any of that is approached. The one exception being the image; it's clearly not under a valid non-free exemption and should be put up for deletion ASAP. Snow (talk) 05:25, 25 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A few things:
  • The talk page isn't long enough, or muddled enough to need archiving.
  • A lot of the equipment lists and the "Grappling gun" section are based on fan-sites. And even if they were moved away from that they would need to move away from the in-story tone and specs.
  • Since the image was tagged a year and a half ago as needing an original publication source, which has been ignored, I would tend to agree it's time to pull it.

unsourced or unexplained elements of Batman's utility belt should remain deleted or get explained

Merge with Batman

[edit]

Why is this a separate article? All of this stuff just belongs in the Batman article. (It all just boils down to "Batman's belt has pouches which contain whatever gadgets the writer happens to find convenient to introduce into the story, here are some examples.")
