Reordering of Series IV

[edit]

The Gulf War forced a change in the original running order of Series IV of Red Dwarf and as a result this episode was the first to be aired, appropriately enough on Valentine's Day.

The 1992 and 1994 repeats used the intended order - Dimension Jump, Justice, Camille, White Hole, DNA, Meltdown. If it was just the War then surely that would have made Justice the first episode transmitted? According to the 1993 edition of the Programme Gudie it was Valentine's Day that led to this episode going out first. Timrollpickering 20:33, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The 1997 edition says that "Meltdown" was intended to be the first episode of the series, which is what prompted reordering of the series. Someone, although I don't remember where, noted that Kryten was introducing the dilemma of his servile programming for the series in "Meltdown" ("I'm programmed to obey, no matter how psychotic and deranged the human order."). RedDwarf.co.uk also says "Meltdown" was originally first and that it turned out better to be at the end because it was the weakest of the series.
