Move to Chattogram Division

[edit]

I'm moving the page from Chittagong to Chattogram as it is the official name by the government of Bangladesh and also locally used most and according to Google trends Chattogram is the most used name. I am moving according to WP:COMMONNAME Therealbey (talk) 00:39, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Therealbey: You are welcome to propose such a move, but there is an existing consensus to use Chittagong, so your unilateral move is controversial and a discussion needs to reach a new consensus before any move is made. Because multiple articles are involved (Chittagong, Chittagong District, Chittagong Division, ...) I recommend that you start the discussion somewhere more central than here. I've moved this page back to the stable name, Chittagong Division, for now.
Google Trends can provide insight into general trends in search terms, but must must be interpreted with care. For one thing, it treats "Chittagong" as a search term and "Chattogram" as a topic, and measures the two differently, so it's an apples-to-oranges comparison. For another, it deals with search terms, not usage in reliable sources. WP:COMMONNAME is determined by prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable sources--Worldbruce (talk) 14:03, 24 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
