Again turn from stub into redirect?

[edit]

Do we need this stub article if the Duchy of Pomerania is covered extensively in Pomeranian duchies and dukes already? Why not again turn this into a redirect? Skäpperöd (talk) 15:19, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An article on the Duchy of Pomerania has to include at least Rügen and Schlawe-Stolp anyway, and as Polish readers and etitors keep on confusing the Duchy of Pomerania with the duchies of Pomerelia because in Polish both read Pomorze, the Pomerelian duchies should in my opinion be included, too. Also, there is no real border between Pomerania and Pomerelia Skäpperöd (talk) 15:26, 18 July 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Duchy of Pomerania is a notable topic, as are the smaller Duchies that were created from it. We should have another article for Duchy of Pomeralia.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 16:03, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There's no doubt the topic is notable. The question is whether to have a separate article or to cover the duchy together with Pomerelia for the above reasons, as it is already done in Pomeranian duchies and dukes.Skäpperöd (talk) 11:33, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gdansk vote

[edit]

1308 is a date specific to the history of Gdanzig. The rule to use the Polish name before 1308 is not applicable for places in which the 1308 events (a "Teutonic takeover" from Polish forces) did not take place. Just as in turn Katowice is not addressed as Kattowitz in 1926. The Gdansk vote of course fully applies in terms of before/after 1945. Skäpperöd (talk) 16:52, 19 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pomorze

[edit]

It is strange that the Polish name "Pomorze" is not even mentioned in the article. Tsf (talk) 15:07, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Place names?

[edit]

What is the point of using German place names in description of periods when the place was not ruled (and probably not inhabited) by speakers of any dialects of German?
The current format is "German Name with link (Current/original name)". Makes the article look weird with all the brackets.--109.196.118.133 (talk) 06:00, 14 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is the English language Wikipedia. In general "German" names are actually the English names for these places (borrowed from German). English has a long history sticking with older versions of names even when the locals change the name of a place. For example English speakers still call Turin by its old name, "Turin". Italians have changed the name to something else. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.34.239.79 (talk) 05:06, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

POV tag

[edit]

Significant portions of this article are content forks of "Pomerania during the High Middle Ages" or vice versa, same problems as there - see talk there.Volunteer Marek 00:58, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Footnote 1

[edit]

Does not say that Pomerania means "Land by the sea". It uses the expression "so viel wie", which means: (Pomerania) could be roughly translated (as land by the sea). If one takes a deeper look into history, it appears, that Pomerania is named after a group of tribes living near by (or "at") the sea. Hence it would be better explained, that Pomerania is named after the Pomeranians. I mention this, because one could think furthermore that Poland is to be translated "land at the land" - which would be utter rubbish. (It is called after those tribes living at the land or 'po lane', as they would've said in medieval times. --213.39.147.118 (talk) 15:20, 21 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
