This guy is definitely notable, but the article badly needs to be rewritten. A lot of trivial material needs to be removed, and it could use a more neutral POV. --Brianyoumans 22:50, 9 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the http://www.vernal.com/august_30_1995/obits/ link under Footnotes needs to be noted as being dead - can't even retrieve it via archive.org :^( I did find http://www.vernal.com/cmsimple2_3new/?August_31%2C_2005 but there's nothing about Earl there :^( I'd edit it myself, but for some reason none of the links show up when I try to edit the Footnotes section - just some Div statement - ??? References

[edit]

Have all the references in this gigantic list been used in the creation of this article, or is it just a list of every book that mentions Earl Bascom. I am hiding the section until this can be cleared up. --Kmsiever 15:16, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The archive link that the bot found is a failed archive and there are no other archives that work on the Wayback Machine. I also tried to find one at archive.js and was unsuccessful. This link must be considered a dead link for now.

However, the www.ercarodeo.com link says "www.ercarodeo.com - Coming soon!" so the link may return and someone may be able to find this source again in the future. For now, I am marking it dead link and please do not remove per WP:KDL. dawnleelynn(talk) 03:26, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A couple sources

[edit]

Hi Magnolia677 Just a quick question on two sources. The source IMDb has been used recently and falls under Disputed use in WP:CITINGIMDB and could possibly be acceptable. Also, the source http://www.cowboydirectory.com/ is used about 22 times in the last couple years. However, it definitely appears to be a blog. But I am hesitant to remove or try to replace it without asking first. Sometimes a blog is by an expert, journalist, or book writer, etc. For instance I use content from a blog by a writer I know who has written several rodeo books and was a journalist for most of the 20th century. I am also trying to ensure reliability in this highly notable subject but lately another editor is getting upset, which is not my intention. Thank you...dawnleelynn(talk) 00:17, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Dawnleelynn: Thanks for contacting me. I'm usually pretty strict about sources, but the blog looks well-researched, so I'm neutral about both sources. I have other concerns, first with WP:INDISCRIMINATE and that every conceivable piece of information about Bascom—no matter how trivial—has been crammed into this article. I've also had an ongoing concern about this commercial website selling Bascom products (still in the article), and which various IPs keep adding to the external links section as well. Cheers. @Magnolia677: Thanks for your reply. It is very helpful. I won't remove content from the blog. However, if I see reliable sources that cover content from the blog, I will add them. The content from IMDb is all movie information such as casting, dates, and such so I'll leave that alone too. I will take on your other concerns though. Please contact me anytime you have concerns or requests. Thanks so much for your help! dawnleelynn(talk) 18:51, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fake reference removed

[edit]

I've removed a fake reference that said:

http:Earl's ancestor Gilbertus Bask'omme was a French Basque nobleman and also Robert Bascom was a Huguenot who escaped religious persecution in France

So, it started as if it was a URL, but then it was a text. I've searched the text, but it only appears in wikipedias and places copying the wikipedia.

It has been here since August 2016.
