Unpaid gambling debts

[edit]

I assure you, Poker News[1] is a valid reliable source for news about poker players. WP:BLP issues, whatever they might be here, can't trump the public right to know that a person is a shady business man if this is confirmed via reliable sources. The cat is completely out of the bag here; whitewashing this matter serves no encyclopedic purpose. -- Kendrick7talk 07:40, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I assure you that you need to stop posting extremely contentious material. Poker News is not the source of the information. They are just reporting what a thread on a forum said. WP:BLP is completely clear, no self-published sources, no forum threads, no rumors. If you have an issue with the BLP rules, and how rumors should be considered encyclopedic, take it up on the talk page there. Until then, do not keep adding this material. It is the responsibility of every editor to remove such pitifully "sourced" material on sight (and that includes even if it is true). 2005 (talk) 18:55, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but WP:Secondary sources attest to the public statements these notable people -- peers of Mr. Lindgren (such as Kid Poker) -- have made.[2] You can be critical of the exact wording if you'd like. Surely you understand that Erick Lindgren is notable purely for being a professional gambler, and as such, both his gambling winnings and his losses are fair game in his biography, as is how he chooses to do business in his chosen profession if those choices are far outside the mean (as reliable sources attest to indeed be the case here). The purpose of WP:BLP isn't to tie our hands and force us to be solely a fanboy or cheerleader here. -- Kendrick7talk 01:05, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but you can't just ignore the Wikipedia's policy, as for secondary sources repeating gossip, please. This is the Wikipedia, not the Enquirer. 2005 (talk) 20:16, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Last winter, Lingren entered rehab for his gambling problem, as has been covered in personal interview with Bluff Magazine published in February 2013.[3] I hope you will find that source more reliable. -- Kendrick7talk 01:33, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the Bluff article is a reliable source. The forum posts, and reprints of such, were not. --SubSeven (talk) 03:15, 8 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
