No escort fighters on Tidal Wave Mission.

[edit]

The August 1st 1943 Tidal Wave mission, the low level attack was flown from North African bases, with no fighter escort.

When the 15th Air Force was established in Italy at the Foggia airbase complex, missions were flown to Ploesti, with fighter escort.

I expect the combat referred to as "over the target" at Ploesti occurred during one of those missions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.15.176.59 (talk) 05:09, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
