Crew list

[edit]

No one found it a little bit odd that the entire crew of an active-duty warship is listed by rank, full name and position on an open-source website? OPSEC anyone? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.202.223.202 (talk) 15:28, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Canadian Forces has already seen fit to make that information public, in the 'Sub Departments' pages of the submarine's webpages at http://www.navy.forces.gc.ca/cornerbrook/3/3-s_eng.asp?category=67&title=773 . Assuming that the information there is true, if they want to make the information public /there/, I see no reason for us to conceal it /here/. DataPacRat (talk) 22:17, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is concern that lists of commanding officers for warships/submarines do not belong, as the information adds very little to the understanding of the subject at hand (in this case, HMCS Corner Brook). If lists of COs are 'maybe', I think that lists of the entire boat's company would be a solid 'no' under WP:What Wikipedia is not, particularly "Not an indiscriminate collection of information", point 5, and "Not a directory", point 7. -- saberwyn 04:57, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Location

[edit]

User:Indefatigable has stated in his /her edit summary: "St John's is not on the Labrador coast." I put that bit in , wrongly it would seem, to try and help the reader know where St Johns is. If it is wrong, Indefatigable, how about correcting it? RASAM (talk) 21:47, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

With St John's being the capital of the province, I did not think its location needed elaboration, especially since it is hyperlinked and in a photo caption, which should be kept brief. But if we do decide to elaborate, what should we put? Avalon Peninsula would not work -- if you know where that is, you probably already know where St John's is. "Eastern Newfoundland" is probably the best we can do. Indefatigable (talk) 22:17, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
