Vandalism

[edit]

some anon editors are targetting this page, adding notorious personalities as alumni. --Dweller 08:09, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

History

[edit]

The long section of history proved to be a copyvio from the book by Cockburn et al., so I have removed it. It would be useful to précis this material to replace the fairly short account that remains in the article. seglea 23:23, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

National schools report

[edit]

I reverted this edit ("A national report places them as one of the worst in Hertfordshire [1]") on the grounds that it's incorrect: If you read the report, there is no metric by which it is 'one of the worst in Hertfordshire. I assume the editor who included this was confused by the fact that Habs was placed at the bottom of the table, but it was there due to not having data for two of the metrics; on the metrics there was data for, Habs was among the best, not the worst. -- simxp (talk) 23:25, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, in lieu of any justification from User:86.134.165.229, I have removed the blockquote from the report -- cutting and pasting the 'weaknesses' part of the report into the article whilst not even mentioning the strengths is POV at best. -- simxp (talk) 22:49, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, a statement "Doubts have also been cast over the legitimacy of the report" does rather need a citation; especially as the sole justification for this seems to be that, "the ICS website states some misinformation about the school, that it teaches Greek and Media Studies (it does not)" -- to the best of my knowledge this is incorrect regarding Greek; Although it is not an timetabled subject, Mr. Whiteman nevertheless teaches it after school to people who are going on to study Classics. -- simxp (talk) 22:53, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In the absence of any justification or sources for the above sentence by the inserting user in the past week, I'm removing it; it seems to me to be a classic example of original research by 86.134.165.229. -- simxp (talk) 06:10, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bias

[edit]

Can users watch this page for obvious signs of bias? The page should be written objectively, and quoted sources should be used when relevant, rather than blind compliments. Another type of bias is by repeating material, such as references to the school's expansion plan or its charity work. At times it borders upon advertising, local issues and non-notability. The question should always be asked whether a public school in Hertfordshire can justify long paragraphs about its charitable achievements or a list of its internal societies. DannyK

If it's factual is it 'advertising'? Re the other challenges, as "a public school in Hertfordshire" the interest might be local. As an institution that has name recognition across the UK and beyond, the fact that it happens to be in Hertfordshire perhaps speaks for Hertfordshire's wise planning decision in the early 1960's. Condense the Alumni List

[edit]

There seem to be an awful lot of not-so-notable alumni. The alumni list would be more useful if it were condensed into a list of genuinely notable Old Haberdashers - otherwise it becomes a triumph of quantity over quality, doing neither Wikipedia nor the school any favours. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.1.190.125 (talk) 17:18, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Non-notable alumni removed; grouped into sections; pictures added.Mogsmar6 (talk) 17:46, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ideally, the alumni lists should be ordered by name or date of birth. Conrad1on (talk) 18:19, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ISI Report

[edit]

I've removed the tag about ISI report not being relevant - now that I've moved the section into an 'academia' heading, I think it becomes a lot more relevant and sensible. Mogsmar6 (talk) 15:21, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Assisted places, scholarships, and anything like that

[edit]

I have just removed the adjective "staggering" which was added by a presumably well-meaning person immediately before the mention of the yearly fees.

It occurs to me that the school probably has some form of fund-raising scheme intended to replace the Assisted Places Scheme and any other related schemes. It would seem necessary and appropriate to mention this when mentioning the level of fees. MPS1992 (talk) 20:27, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sam Kayode

[edit]

I've removed the following from the Media references section in the article:

In 2019, in the Woolwich Crown Court, one of the schools' accountants, Sam Kayode, was convicted and sentenced to nine years in prison for stealing from, and for defrauding, the Haberdashers' Aske's Schools the amount of £4.1 million, of which only £800,000 was recovered.[22]

The ref link is broken:

[22] www.therepublicannews.net pastor jailed for £4.1m fraud in UK http://therepublicannews.net/title=Nigerian pastor jailed for £4.1m fraud in UK Check |url= value (help). Retrieved 1 September 2019. Missing or empty |title= (help)

I'm confident that this is the same story as: Nigerian pastor jailed for £4.1m fraud in UK at https://punchng.com/nigerian-pastor-jailed-4-1m-fraud-uk/

That story makes it clear that the fraud was against the Haberdashers' state schools, not the public school that is the subject of the article. Geofpick (talk) 17:41, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Omission- of telling about Robert Aske & the decision to remove Aske's name

[edit]

As a past pupil of Haberdashers Aske's School- I was intrigued by the systematic omission of  'Aske' (which was part of school name) in all the materials-- without telling at all that the decision to remove the name 'Aske' from the school name was made recently-- due to the slave market connections of Robert Aske- Surely the issue need be fully disclosed > told and explained-- yet the article just hides this-- Writing about "Haberdasher's Boys' School"-- without the full name of the past-- shows that all the changes were made fairly recently, yet the subject itself was simply hidden-- This surely is inappropriate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.179.160.73 (talk) 10:30, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
