Professor honoris causa

Is the title Professor honoris causa (see e.g. Géza Alföldy, Nicole Anderson (philosopher), Petar Atanasov (linguist), ...) equivalent to Honorary professor? This appears to be assumed in the article David Brading, which lists the distinction of "Professor Honorario (Honoris Causa)". Otto Thomas Solbrig is said to have been bestowed the title '"Professor honorario honoris causa", which is pleonastic if the titles are equivalent.  --Lambiam 08:35, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
