Thanks for tidying this up But why have you destroyed the link to the ODNB article, please? === Vernon White (talk) 08:39, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The online DNB is a subscription website, so links will be useless to most users. -- Necrothesp 13:27, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not those who are members if the many U.K. Public Libraries, which subscribe to ODNB, on behalf of their members. If you click on a link to a ODNB article, the ODNB page you get includes the link " Does my library subscribe?" takes you through (eventually) to an opportunity to input your library bar-code number and gain free access. Of course, many academic libraries also subscribe, on behalf of their students and staff. === Vernon White (talk) 16:06, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know most British libraries subscribe (that's how I have permanent access, since I work at a university), but I always feel that links should not be added unless they are generally available to the public worldwide. Nevertheless, if you think it should be readded then I will not object to you doing so. -- Necrothesp 16:40, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think that, if ODNB is the main source of a WP article, it is only fair to cite the ODNB reference in full, with all the data that Oxford recommend at the foot of each ODNB article. Would it be regarded as "Spam" to include the info at [[Talk:Dictionary of National Biography#Online Access to ODNB for UK Public Library members] in the main article on DNB? If OK, then any ref to ODNB in another article could include a link to that paragraph. === Vernon White (talk) 17:41, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
