Applejack or calvados/brandy

[edit]

It's a common misunderstanding, that a Jack Rose is made with applejack. In fact it is not a jack rose is actually made with Calvados which is a Cider Liquer —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.108.125.108

Every early source (pre-war) for the jack rose lists it as being made of applejack, even the (extremely close to Normandy) Savoy Cocktail Book. Do some research.(talk) 00:24, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A jack rose is definitely traditionally made from applejack and not calvados (an apple brandy). Applejack, however, is pretty much the American take on calvados, so there's nothing wrong with using either. Most source recipes list applejack, so that is why it is applejack in this article. Indeed it is traditionally made with Applejack as both the drink created by Frank J. May and Laird's Appplejack from the distillery licensed by the Treasury in 1780 are from New Jersey.
It is bartender Alex Waugh who, when he worked at Death & Co in NYC in the 2000s, introduced a half applejack and half Calvados variant that is sublimely smooth. 24.186.126.1 (talk) 21:26, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That awful picture

[edit]

Apologies. I'm not a regular wikipedia editor. I edited an article or two over a decade ago and haven't done so since because there are tens of thousands of you wonderful editors that do it for us all.

But I gotta say that the picture accompanying the article is so wrong! And perhaps offensive to lovers of the traditional Jack Rose cocktail and decently made grenadine. The drink is NEVER this color when made by a bartender who is not cutting corners. The grenadine in the picture is just food coloring and sugar water. And that berry garnish is anathema! It doesn't need a garnish but an apple slice is acceptable to remind imbibers of its origins as a spirit.

My question is, how do I swap in a better pic of a Jack Rose? 24.186.126.1 (talk) 21:37, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies again. The above is me. I didn't realize I was not logged in. Nor did I realize that Wikipedia allows people to post in Talk without an account. Glindathebest (talk) 21:39, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
